Today I was interviewed today by the CBC’s Wendy Mesley about the Jaffer/Guergis/lobbyist/blah blah blah stuff.
It’s an interesting subject, I guess, but I had other things on my mind. The whole time, I wanted to tell her: “In Ottawa, four of us had a band we named after you, The Mesleys. Our greatest regret was that we were never able to present you with our first platinum record.”
Actually, we never had a platinum record. Or a gold one. Or a tin one, even.
Anyway, I didn’t tell her about the band. I chickened out (sorry, Yaz). Meanwhile, Wendy’s story is on The National tonight.
I like Wendy, something magnetic about her, I hope yoour band does her justice.
You had other things on your mind? To be quite honest – I don’t blame you!

Wendy looks better and better as the years go by. She’s really sharp, and always has the shadow of a grin on her face.
Nomeansno side-project Showbusiness Giants did a song called “I’ve got a crush on Wendy Mesley” in the 1990s if I remember correctly. So clearly you guys weren’t the only musicians to fall under her spell.

Wendy Mesley is an excellent journalist. The only time I can remember her being off-kilter was when the Mulroney CBC budget cuts threatened her then posting in Montreal. I’m told she was actually disposed toward worrying aloud. Thank God divine providence had something better in store for her over at the Mothercorp.
