—Thirty years ago today
The things that the Charter, and the Constitution, were designed to prevent are still a threat. And that is why today is a day to remember, and be vigilant, and celebrate this great achievement.
(And, while we’re on the subject, let me say: my God, I miss this man.)
Our small(but growing) Liberal Riding Assn is celebrating the charter with a lil fete this afternoon…..followed by watching the celebrations online……
He was the PM of my youth. Stands as one of our greatest in my opinion.
I am going to celebrate the Charter. I will bake a cake and have a party. I might send a piece of the cake to Mr.Harper. If it arrives dried up and mouldy that is only what he deserves. He is so small minded and manipulative he cannot even acknowledge one of the most important happenings that Canadians have experienced. An ego that sets itself above Canada. A man who cares more about his own small ideas than about his country. Zimbabweans know all about it. Is there a psychiatric term for it?
A recent poll shows that all Canadians, including Quebecers, love the Charter. Thank God for the Charter. It prevents the power mad from stomping all over Canadian’s rights. Thank God for the courts and the Judiciary. They will protect our rights from those who want to make a mockery of them. Those who want to make a mockery of them by things like warrantless snooping will be exceedingly angry and try to manipulate their way around the courts. Let’s not let them.
Hmph …. voted for Trudeau every time he ran. I can’t say I’d do the same again, except maybe with respect to Joe Clark (what a complete maroon).
I don’t celebrate the Charter either, sorry …
In many ways it ways a great leap backwards … the exclusion of property rights is one example. But I don’t imagine for a second that socialists or liberal democrats or however one chooses to reframe them would agree.
