PS – Read this, Andrew

Still think it was okay to make jokes about their son’s fate?

I never make these kind of assertions, but I feel compelled to say that only a stupid and/or ignorant asshole would joke about this and remind people that the video of the horrific death may haunt the family and their friends forever.

So maybe the jokers should think about what it would be like to lose their child this way and what it would be like to know the snuff movie of their child’s death is only a Google away.

Also, everytime this type of evil slaughter happens, the Mahaffy’s and the French’s relive theirs.

So am I sorry to be so ungentlemanly, but only a piece of shit would turn any of this to humour.

This atrocious murder of an innocent and brilliant foreign student will resonate all over China and Asia for a very long time.

My deepest condolences go out to his family.

Making any joke, however intended, of this tragedy demonstrates very poor form no matter what medium is involved.

Rebuilding relations with China will take quite some time.

    I’m not surprised, Warren,

I worked in China for a while, and one thing I can recall is how nice the average Chinese citizen was. They were quiet and unassuming, polite to a fault. They enjoy having fun once they get to know you, and above all else, they love their children as much as we do.

Frankly, if it weren’t for the language and the fact that the Chinese police or military follow foreigners around…you would think you were at home with your friends.

Anyone who would publicly make light of a tragic death deserves some sort of shaming. Particularly if they’re in a prominent position of trust, like a politician or a writer.

But, let it go now, Ok? People have been reprimanded. You can bet they’ll self-censor more carefully on twitter. It’s part of the learning curve.

So am I sorry to be so ungentlemanly, but only a piece of shit would turn any of this to humour.

Well, humour is a very normal and necessary release for stress and tension, and people in all walks of life deliberately make dark jokes sometimes, just to break the darkness. IN PRIVATE, of course. So, most of us are pieces of shit at some point, if we’re human. I’m certain Warren has made jokes and comments he’d be embarrassed to have made public; the point is that most of us have the class and tact to not do so in public.

In case anyone has any doubts about this – EVERY DEATH is hurtful to someone, to some extent, whether it’s a quiet passing in old age, or a violent death at the hands of a nut. I wish all the hand-wringers were as mindful of the families affected by the killing of tens of thousands of Afghans at the hands of western troops.

Yeah, but the jokes he made were about Labbatt.
