Busy day

My take?

Rob Ford’s chances are bad. Sandra Pupatello’s are good.

What’s yours?

Ford loses and goes to the Supreme Court?

As much as I hate to admit it (and would like to be proven wrong) I have a hard time seeing Ford’s ouster. All of my law-talkin’ friends assure me that the decision is correct and (legally) tight but I have a niggling feeling of doubt.

I think Sandra Pupatello has the convention. She will make an excellent Premier.

Hello WK, assorted Toronto (Red) Star Readers, and Liberals everywhere,

    • Bloody Bounder says:

Geez, I somehow highly doubt that Niall is a women, visible minority, and/or Aboriginal.
It is also quite unlikely that he is an invisible minority (i.e., non-WASP European Canadian
      such as Italian-Canadian, Greek-Canadian, Portuguese-Canadian, Russian-Canadian, ect.)
Niall, like the vast majority of Canadian Conservatives, is most likely a highly assimilated,
unilingual, unhyphenated, propertied, car owning, rural/suburban WHITE MALE of British
Isles ancestry. Tell us Niall, how does it feel knowing that Statistics Canada has officially
projected that White Canadians will go from being 80% of the total population to less
than 50% by the year 2050, owing to high levels of non-White immigration and fertility
coupled with very low (well below replacement) levels of White fertility and next to
zero White immigration to Canada?. Do you know that recent studies have shown that
visible minorities and aboriginals tend to still overwhelmingly vote Liberal or NDP?.

As soon as White Canadians in general and White Males of WASP/Nordic extraction such
as yourself are rendered demographically and electorally irrelevant at the ballot box, the
sooner we can have true social justice in Canada.

Rob Ford “won” the 2010 Toronto mayoral election with 45% of the vote based on a turnout
of only 15% if all eligible voters. You can expect many more people to turn out in the
2014 Toronto mayoral election. Also, Toronto was still 55% White in 2010 and White people
are now thankfully a minority and continue to shrink in Toronto. 50,000 new immigrants arrive
each and every year in Toronto, many of whom need social services such as welfare and public
housing. What do you think Mr Ford and his legions of WASP-ish tax hating, propertied, car
owning, suburbanite supporters will be in 2014 Niall?. Toronto also now has more renters
than propertied owners. The poor and impoverished immigrants will continue to flood into
Toronto and Mr Ford and his anti-immigrant, anti-bilingual, anti-multicultural, anti-Quebec,
tax hating, suburbanite legions of old, crabby, angry WASP farts are going to have to keep
paying for them no matter what he does!. HAHAHAHA!.

PS: Do you scream “Freedom from Braveheart and Scotland” Niall?. I bet you are a “workin’ joe”
that drives a pickup truck ain’t ya White boy?.

      • Brine says:

Wow, what do you use to wipe all the foam flying out of your mouth from your keyboard?

Here’s another take on the subject to get you going:

        • Bloody Bounder says:

So Brine (another WASP), Rob Ford “won” the 2010 Toronto mayoral election with 45% of the
vote based on a turnout of only 15% if all eligible voters. You can expect many more people
to turn out in the 2014 Toronto mayoral election. Also, Toronto was still 55% White in 2010
and White people are now thankfully a minority and continue to shrink in Toronto. 50,000 new
immigrants arrive each and every year in Toronto, many of whom need social services such
as welfare and public housing. What do you think Mr Ford and his legions of WASP-ish tax
hating, propertied, car owning, suburbanite supporters will be in 2014 Briene?.

Toronto also now has more renters than propertied owners. The poor and impoverished immigrants will continue to flood into
Toronto and Mr Ford and his anti-immigrant, anti-bilingual, anti-multicultural, anti-Quebec, tax hating, suburbanite legions of old,
crabby, angry WASP farts are going to have to keep paying for them no matter what he does!. Are you able to refute any of these
          demographic FACTS?.

PS: It would be interesting to see even one Conservative poster here and/or hateful email sent to Warren which does NOT
have a Canadian of British Isles ancestry behind it. Even hardcore Conservatives I talk too who happen to be Chinese-Canadians,
Indo-Canadians or Pakistani-Canadians all without exception have absolutely no problem with immigration, bilingualism, multiculturalism,
Quebec, affirmative action, gun control and/or the legacy of Pierre Trudeau. The ONLY, I repeat the ONLY, Canadians, usually Conservatives,
but sometimes Liberals and NDP, who whine and bitch about immigration, bilingualism, multiculturalism, Quebec, affirmative action, gun control
and/or the legacy of Pierre Trudeau are fucking WASPs. People reading my posts can call me crazy, loud mouthed, a ranter, a raver, ect; but
I challenge you to prove me wrong that the quintessential troll on this forum, the sender of hate mails to Warren, the type that complains about
“ivy league downtown liberal elites” like Rob Ford, the blue collar Conservative populist who hates the “university liberal arts artsy fartsy” or
the Nialls/Briens are ALWAYS fucking WHITE ANGLO SAXON PROTESTANT types. I know Chinese-Canadians, Indo-Canadians and Pakistani-Canadians
who are hardcore Conservatives who hate progressive taxation, gay rights, abortion rights, unions, ect; but I am yet to find any who possess that
blue collar right-wing populist redneck white trash shtick who rant and rave about “Ivy league Liberals”. In fact, all of the visible minority Conservatives
I know place a great deal of emphasis on class, caste and higher education. Being a University educated professional is quite often a familial and
societal expectation of most visible minorities in Canada, including those of whom who are fiscal/social Conservatives. Also, the blue collar populist
redneck white trash types who support Rob Ford make sport out of attacking civil servants, teachers, social workers, ect; whereas all of the hardcore
visible minority Conservatives I know view public sector employment as being highly prestigious.

I was at two Rob Ford rallies during the summer of 2010. Despite the City of Toronto being only 55% White at the time, and these events being
held in Toronto, both events were filled with vile, disgusting, slovenly dressed, unkempt, ignorant, common, low class, blue collar, redneck white
trash walking around with fat guts and beers in hand. The parking lots at both events were filled with pickup trucks. Mr Ford is sadly the hero
of the ANGRY WHITE MALE and the BLUE COLLAR REDNECK POPULIST.

  10. Bloody Bounder says:

So Monsieur Le Pig survived to fight another day. What a shame. This will be a huge boost for the legions
of ignorant, uneducated, common, uncouth, unrefined, tactless, redneck white trash who work in blue collar
jobs who absolutely HATE immigration, bilingualism, multiculturalism, Quebec, progressive taxation, gun control,
affirmative action, hate crimes laws, human rights commissions, women’s rights, gay rights, abortion rights,
public transit, renters, urban dwellers, and downtown condo owners. A generation ago, all of the redneck white
trash were mostly unionized members of the NDP, now with the advent of the collapse of the post-war consensus
in the mid-1990s followed by de-industralization, off shoring, outsourcing, corporate downsizing, the weakening
of unions and the de-skilling of jobs, these folks switched and became so-called “blue collar conservatives” who
infiltrated the Canadian Conservative movement en mass and those who were formerly NDP union thugs who
hated the wealthy and middle class, then became hateful of inherited wealth, welfare recipients, public education,
public housing, immigrants, and yes, the very unions they once belonged too. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
Canada won’t know social justice and equality until White people are a demographic minority from coast to coast to
coast and are rendered largely electoral and demographically irrelevant. A huge reason why people voted for
Ford was because of his anti-immigrant and homophobic statements, coupled with the fact that his core grassroots
base are mostly right-wing populist redneck white trash who work in blue collar vocations, and his attacks on cyclists
and “downtown urban leftists” appealed to this demographic of human vermin.

    • Eric Weiss says:

      Hysterical much?

    • Brine says:

      Nurie, is that you?

      • Jon Adams says:

Wall-o-text? Check. Gradually decreasing characters per line? Check. Frivolous accusations of racism? Check.

If it walks like a duck, etc.

        • The Doctor says:

Oh, that’s Nurie all right. One of the things that slays me about her foam-flecked rants is this unstated assumption that Toronto’s “redneck” suburbs are some bastion of all-whiteness. Like, have you BEEN to the burbs lately? And yet Nurie’s from Scarborough, apparently. The irony is unbelievable.

That’s all assuming that Nurie is a real person. Sometimes I wonder if WK goes to entertainment agencies and comedy clubs and hires comedians to pose as outrageous twits like Nurie, just to spice things up on the comment board.

  11. Graham says:

    Decision is in: FORD WINS!

Hate to say it, actually no, I love to say it: Told ya!!!

I came on here when his appeal was launched and predicted he would win based on the fact the original vote which said Ford had to pay back the $3,100 was invalid because the city’s Code of Conduct gave only two options for dealing with a violation, which using his office stationary was. They were 1) A public reprimand or 2) Suspension of pay.

I was called an idiot, and was told I was full of shit (not by you Mr. Kinsella, but by commentors). Time for some to eat crow.

To be honest, I thought he would win this in Hackland’s court and lose the libel lawsuit.

  12. Graham says:

    Regarding the Liberal leadership race:

Are you at all worried Kennedy sits in third and has the chance to again be “King (or in this case maybe Queen) Maker”?

It was Kennedy who helped crown Dion federal Liberal leader in 2006, and we all know how that worked out.

Could Kennedy win outright? Dalton was sitting third heading into the 1996 convention wasn’t he?

    • Cath says:

Kennedy is no Dalton McGuinty. If he wins the opposition will be VERY VERY happy indeed. Soooo much baggage to choose from.
For the long term Pupatello seems to be the one who might challenge in the next provincial election.

  13. Derek Pearce says:

Well then. It appears the law has no teeth. I haven’t read the verdict, but did they in effect strike down the removal provision or just ignore it? I’ll be curious to see what happens the next time a municipal politician in Ontario is caught in a conflict of interest, they now have precedent to get away with it on their side. That sucks.

  14. Tim Little says:

Sousa goes to Pup after 1st ballot to ensure he becomes Finance Min. This, along with votes of most unelected party elite puts her over the top. Then she loses by-election to NDP. Then there’s a 2nd byelection ($$$$$$) this sumer after some poor sod Lib MPP in a safe(r) seat agrees to step down in return for a nice OIC appointment. Some blog will soon start a discussion about which riding PUp eventually parachutes into. Messy, n’est-ce pas?

  15. Les Miller says:

Giggles for the rest of us, but woe is TO.

    Ford stays.

  16. The Doctor says:

Just watching CBC News now. Ford won the appeal. Re WK’s predictive abilities, you win some, you lose some. I was a bit surprised myself. But no one should have been surprised that Ford would have exhausted all legal avenues before giving up. He brought his guns to a gunfight.

  17. Swervin' Merv says:

So, the Appeal Court didn’t absolve Mayor Ford of acting badly in a conflict of interest situation but concluded that the Integrity Commissioner and Council overstepped their authority when asking him to pay back the money in question.

  18. dave says:

From what I heard on CBC news, there is a law, with a specific sanction. The court seems to have declared that the sanction in the law is too strict.

Would this mean that any law that has a strict sanction(minimum sentence) can be overturned by a court?

  19. Warren says:

    That’s right, I was wrong.

    So is Divisional Court.

  20. Cath says:

Do you think that this decision favours any one of the candidates vying for prov. Lib. leadership WK?

  21. Steven says:

To its credit, the Divisional Court did not set aside Justice Hackland’s findings that His Worship had a stubborn sense of entitlement, and was dismissive, confrontational and wilfully ignorant.
