—That RBC war room is doing a great job!
Here they are – and here’s another day of great headlines, showing what a great job they’re doing!
Anyone know, perchance, who is handling issues management/crisis comms for these bozos?
Whoever it is, they obviously played hooky when the prof taught PR101. At this stage, RBC should rescind their decision, rehire those they’re laying off, apologize profusely for their mistake, promise to review their whole staffing policy, and cut their losses. Classic case in how-not-to-handle crisis communications.
It’s amazing, isn’t it? And they’re coming up to a week of this thing. What a bunch.
it might be Burson-Marsteller http://www.burson-marsteller.com/default.aspx – I saw a media person tweet about them shortly after it started going sideways
I only work for clients who listen to advice. All of mine do.
The banks don’t.
My daughter who is in the business, as was I earlier in life, says that for all we know, as is too often the case, their comms folks are not being listened to and likely not given a seat at the table but, instead, told to prettily package the horse turds delivered by the executives.
I have no doubt about that.
The H1-B program has been beneficial to the US by bringing in more immigrants from India.
Immigration is wonderful and enriches our society.
I think we should take it easy with the attacks on RBC, who are helping bring in more progressive voters and increasing diversity in our society.
This is not about immigration. These people are not emigrating to Canada. They are coming, being trained by the people who are losing their jobs to them, and then going back to their countries of origin to do the job from there. They will pay their taxes at home, buy products at home and contribute to their own economies while Canadians lose their jobs.
Ed Frink – out of touch much? Jesus.
the ceo of rbc does himself no favours when he suggests that it is a contractor not rbc doing the deed; as if he does not know that these jobs will be shifted to India. then he says outsourcing of “only” 45 jobs is a business decision to contuinue the $6B profits. and he may wonder why Canadians have a big dislike for big business and banks in particular.
The money quote:
“I’m only 53. I’d be very surprised if I made it to 60, but I have no intention of leaving in the near term, so it’s somewhere between now and 60,” he says.

It’s possible that RBC is using foreign workers for their issues management and crisis comms, particularly those that originate from locations where English is not the natal language.
I think whats happened is the PR team has been outsourced and the outgoing PR/Media relations team didnt train the newbies effectively…probably their last laugh and revenge. Just goes to show you that you dont always get what you pay for…or in this case perhaps you do ( as lowered wages can mean less productuctivity in most places:))
RBC should ask credit unions for advice;)
Ironically, I hear it’s a groovy little boutique PR firm that outsources it’s work to Mumbai who in turn outsources to a remote village in the North – the copy guy wanted to go with a Colonal Klink vibe – “I see nothing ! I know nothing!” Lost in translation to the nth power I guess…
The next phase is apparently a rip-off of Scotia’s campaign: “RBC – you’re smarter than you think.”
Regards, enjoy the race to the bottom.

Outsourcing bank jobs is common practice, say employees

Minister Finley’s headache may soon turn into a full blown migraine.
Warren, the banks are not the only businesses doing this. Bell/Aliant and other telecom companies have been doing it for years. The whole thing is now out of control, thanks to Harper.
But there is something else you really need to write about, and it is this.

Anyone with any sort of life saving in these banks really need to pay attention to what Flaherty has done.
Please. Wake up.
I guess they outsourced their war room?
