Ford’s challenge

So, he doesn’t useĀ crack. Present tense, not past.

He looked confident, and sounded defiant. He clearly doesn’t believe the video will ever see the light of day.

That’s a direct challenge to you, journalists. Now, we all get to see if there are any true investigative reporters left in this country.

Hope so.

he doesnt use crack….anymore…lol. I sure hope another piece of evidence surfaces:)

  2. Kaplan says:

He clearly said he doesn’t currently use crack. Nothing said about his past. And the past, as far as his lawyerly-vetted statement is concerned, can still mean in the last six months.

He’s done like a KFC dinner.

  3. Eric says:

Does it matter if the media has the substance wrong and there was some other drug in the pipe?
It doesn’t change my opinion of the nefarious circumstances, but wouldn’t he believe that he is correct and only the type of dope mattered, not the comments reportedly caught on film and the compromising circumstance he put himself in?

  4. Doesn’t it sound like he bought it?

  5. smelter rat says:

Does anyone else find it strange we ‘re debating the yes /no of the the mayor of Toronto’s alleged crack use?

  6. Lord Kitchener says:

It is time for the Star to put its money where its mouth is…

spend the money, buy some credibility, and consider it a marketing expense.

This investment could very well make them the main player in Canadian media…and then they can go ahead with their silly pay wall.

  7. Swervin' Merv says:

Speaking of investigative reporters, what happened to the “sources” who said lawyers drafted an “agreement” (or at least expectations) involving Wright (if not Harper) and Duffy?

In the Ford case, I guess most reporters (or gawkers) are not experienced negotiators, who would have arranged for the video to be held by a neutral third party until the money was raised.

These reporters could redeem themselves if they discover that Ford Nation supporters paid for the video to disappear.

    • Reality.Bites says:

Well sure, naturally if you’re doing a deal with Mike Duffy or one of Harper’s staff you get it in writing. But we expect better from our drug dealers.

  8. james Smith says:

    I’ve never smoked crack.
If accused, I would truthfully deny it the moment someone accused me of it and I would not need to lawyer up.
So I truly don’t understand. Why would one need a week and a lawyer’s advise to profess one’s innocence, and do so in such a shabby manner?
Last week’s suggestion that a drug test is in order still stands.
If this this were an episode of Law & Order a smarty pants detective might be investigating phone records of crack dealers, alive and dead, and assorted financial transactions.
But hey, this is Canada, and like the haters tell us, this kind of thing only happens in Quebec.

  9. Gary says:

At my sister’s house tonight and the phone rings. Forum Research doing interactive polling. Do you believe Rob Ford smoked crack? Do you believe there is a video? If yes is it real or fake? If election held now would you vote for Rob Ford, Olivia Chow, “Talk Show Host John Tory”, Karen Stintz. Couple of other questions that I can’t remember. Should be interesting to see how the big guy is polling.

  10. Steve says:

Anyone else read “Spy the Lie” by Houston et al.? Useful techniques to be applied to this latest new conference.

  11. Pipes says:

Obviously Ford bought the video and brother Doug gave the drug guys who have it, an “offer they can’t refuse”, which may cover off a copy being released.

Hmmmm Rob’s hair is rather short. I wonder why?

  12. michael s says:

Globe is going nuclear. 3 am press time.

  13. Russ says:

There is no video…….. anymore. Someone has outbid Gawker and the pushers have gone to ground.

  14. Kelly says:

It’ll come out. There is almost zero chance there is only one copy.

  15. Zinc says:

    His denial is meaningless anyways…
He denied his arrest in Florida until they published a copy of the arrest report.

  16. doris says:

At least this latest episode will drain the Ford bank accounts some more – hit ’em where it counts – in the wallet. Of course the video doesn’t exist RoFo bought it for a helluva lot more than the 200 large ones his crack dealer buddies wanted. It still comes down to this – if he is innocent howcum he doesnn’t sue the arse off the Star?

  17. Sob … make it stop … *smashes head against desk repeatedly*

  18. rumleyfips says:

I guess the Mop and pail listens to you.

  19. Am I the only one who noticed that Our Beloved Brother used the word “extortionists” in his little rant? Does that suggest that the videographers approached Fordland with the tape and the demand before they went to Gawker and the Star? Or just that Doug was ranting as usual?

  20. Jim Hanna says:

Apparently Gawker says they can’t reach the source anymore; and then Ford holds his press conference. He’s got the video (or more accurately that iPhone is now somewhere on the bottom of Lake Ontario)
