Sarah Thomson starts her campaign by breaking the law

Check this out. The John Tory stalking horse has been soliciting donations for her “campaign” before she was even a candidate.

As I write this, she’s arriving at City Hall in a horse-drawn carriage. Stalking horse is right.

This lady is seriously mentally ill.

She said in a clip on the news this morning she was 3rd in 2010. WTF? She was 10th with 1,883 votes.

She also says she has all kinds of financial backers this time around, and many more people who are signing up to her team.

My question would be – Can anyone else see these people?

    • Harvey Bushell says:

She’s certainly delusional. Whether that qualifies as mentally ill I’m not sure but I wouldn’t argue. The 3rd place she was bizarrely referring to is one of the polls that they took in June of 2010 mayoral race where she was, very temporarily, in 3rd place but subsequently dropped like a rock once people had a better look at her.

      • sezme says:

Not necessarily mental illness. It’s just that anyone who would run for office with so little hope of winning has to have such a large ego that concepts like “reality” don’t apply. See campaign promises for another example.

I thought this post was a hoax…. interesting enterance

My brain froze for almost half an hour when I read the news yesterday

  4. Tyrone says:

Last time I heard from her on this election, she wanted to draft John Tory

Shouldn’t she declare victory and call it a day now that Tory’s in? How valuable can she really be as a stalking horse, given how transparent it is?

  5. Andrew says:

I can’t take her seriously with the dread locks.

  6. Mom says:

She also said on Newstalk 1010 a week or so ago that Olivia Chow was past her best before date. Not nice!

  7. Massimo Savino says:

Met her a couple of times canvassing in my riding (Olivia’s*). Ever since that incident with Ford last year she’s gone increasingly off the rails. WTF she is thinking, I honestly have no idea.

Remember that hyped-up bullshit with ‘I have the video’ ? Lunatic. She’s struck me as Karen Stintz in Liberal clothing, actually. With even less sense.

*I wasn’t convinced previously to vote OC to Parliament but the passage of time and the latest shenanigans re Innes/Ianno/JT/Paikin etc etc etc ad nauseam really make me question my membership in the party these days.

  8. Matt says:

She even stole Tory’s logo, just using different colours.

    • Ridiculosity says:

Exactly. If you can’t even come up with your own logo, how much originality can we expect from her if elected? Zero. Other than the dreads.

  9. e.a.f. says:

shows up in a horse drawn carriage. even Downton Abbey is using cars now.
Is this an environmental statement or she is just so back into the 1800s. Whatever she isn’t in Toronto’s best interest.
She certainly shouldn’t be handed the books for a city if she thinks 3 is 10. That could be problem balancing the books. Oh, well and we thought only B.C. had the ding dong politicians.

  10. DJ says:

Very strange kick off — horse drawn carriage and dread locks?! Too weird to be taken seriously!

I don’t think anyone will match Olivia’s fundraising capacity and ability to amass volunteers. She’ll have a formidable campaign.

    • jeff316 says:

I’d have suggested that it was a profile-building exercise to help her run in the upcoming Trinity-Spadina by-election …but the dreadlocks and horse-drawn carriage probably disprove that.

Speaking of stalking horses as a focus group of one Olivia seems to lack focus on transit.
Not sure what the experts say but the relief line has to be point one. Take the extra billion from Sarbaria you save buy doing the scientific thing and use it as a down payment on the relief line.
Not sure if the buses is a good idea or not, but certainly one of the keys to transit is reliable feeder lines to the subways and streetcars, so hit this point in conjunction with increased bus service.
Add to the buses by making more routes one way. Kula Lumpur was changed from a third world mess of traffic to something just horrible by going with one way streets.
Now the expense may not be there to have reversing one way arteries, but the DVP and Gardnier make them one way reversible. Its simpler for the Gardnier because you could have lakeshore also be a reversible one way street, maybe use Kingston Rd to offset the DVP.
Kill the jets hard, with a rail link to Pearson there is much less of a case. I would also put in some tough conditions for the existing airport. The fuel must be ten percent bio, they must put in a catapult to reduce takeoff noise and emissions. There must be a streetcar to the airport.(paid for by Porter, Port Authority) Also have a drop off pickup fee for taxi at island airport. Enforce idle and parking to extremes.

“Olivia seems to lack focus on transit.”
Seems a funny comment considering she just released her second plank on transit with more promised to come. The campaign is long, and showing all your cards at the outset won’t help.

Personally, I prefer Thompson’s plan for a horse-drawn-carriage-based TTC. Classy!
