Toronto’s municipal golf courses have been losing money for years.
A round of golf on one of these courses costs $80+. Anyone playing on these courses is relatively well-off.
So – why should the taxpayers of Toronto be subsidising the well-off to play golf, one of the most expensive hobbies there is?
Not to mention the terrible environmental cost.
Ask yourself this: if these courses didn’t exist, and Tory suggested we built them, what would Chow’s reaction be? She’d attack him for subsidising the wealthy.
Hmmmm, I guess I don’t think that all privatization is wrong. Because I agree with nopw– sell off the golf courses, they won’t be missed. But keep everything else! I don’t think there’s anything wrong in that split rational.
Municipalities should not be in the golf or skiing businesses. Municipalities end up needlessly subsidizing elites and providing discounted access to entitled civil servants. I’d love to see those assets sold off so the revenue could be put into capital improvement/replacement for accessible recreation facilities (most of which are in a sad, sad state).
Ever get the feeling that everyone’s on summer vacation by you Warren 🙂

You’re cool with him privatizing parks, pools and the like too, I take it.

Dentonia is $19-27 for a round and seniors and juniors can play for as low as $11
Not only is it affordable, it is next to a subway stop.
How much for Wards Island? I need a weekend getaway.
