Shame

The one responsible for the biggest abridgement of civil liberties in Toronto’s history – the one who defended carding non-white citizens.

Running for the Liberal Party of Canada. What a disgrace.

It is now official: Fools have taken over the Liberal Party.

Not fearless predictions: Toronto is now in play for the NDP. The Star will endorse Tom Muclair.

  2. SD says:

I will be supporting NDP Dan Harris. Anyone who violates the Charter doesn’t deserve to be elected.

  3. Kevin T. says:

Sunday morning silver lining!: Having the more-naturally-a Con-star-candidate choosing to go with the Libs means that the rats known which ship NOT to embark on.

  4. P Brennan says:

I dont get it? Is idea not to win …

  5. Christian Giles says:

I’m totally done with the Liberal Party. NDP all the way!

  6. Lance says:

Well, Justin Trudeau DID promise open nominations, did he not? 😉

    • Matt says:

It is cute how the Liberals are continuing to try and claim they have open nominations and Blair will have to win the right to be the candidate.

The leader of the party doesn’t spend that much time, have that many face to face meetings with someone too have that person lose in a nomination race.

  7. Pauline Linzy says:

That’s right – don’t forget carding. But don’t forget the G20 either. Blair is a tyrant. Civil liberties? Charter of Rights? Only when it is convenient.

    • Windsurfer says:

Maybe Justin knows that Blair will spill the grand secret during the election campaign – ‘The G20 orders came from the top.’ Not that it excuses him for ‘following orders’ but at least the blame might finally be assigned to its correct source.

      All this……….. speculation.

  8. Nima Basharat says:

I agree with you 100% Warren! I will make sure my friend who lives in the riding votes for Dan Harris.

I spoke with two Liberal MPs and their votes are mostly whipped. Trudeau comes down hard. The progressive voters are against Trudeau’s support for Bill C-51. I will call his office in Ottawa tomorrow.

Shame! Carding non-whites is wrong. This is awful. One of my acquaintances has arrested during G-20 and held in a makeshift cell for 8 hours. Disgusting.

    • edward nuff says:

the G20 was all Harper. He staged it in Toronto and was the only one with authority to spend 1.2 Billion dollars on that fuckup and he was still elected a year later. Control the money and you control the gun. Control the gun and you can get anything done.

  9. eric weiss says:

Hey everybody, remember when JT was going to restore our democracy and do politics differently? Good times…good times.

  10. Dan F says:

It’s an open nomination contest, and there are several other candidates to choose from. I would encourage everyone to get involved in one of those campaigns.

  11. JH says:

First a Bozo eruption, then a Bimbo eruption and now a Fascist eruption – this will be a deal-breaker for many. Good for the NDP, better for the Conservatives, given the latest Poll from CROP out of Quebec as well.

  12. Joe says:

Yesterday a lady of my acquaintance had a picture of a black man from Toronto who says he has been stopped by police 50 times because he is black. My acquaintance is die hard liberal. I wonder if she sees the irony.

  13. Greg Vezina says:

“Hey everybody, remember when JT was going to restore our democracy and do politics differently?” OR everybody, remember when Kathleen Wynne was going to restore our democracy and do politics differently? Well both of them seem to have kept that promise. Both rigged local riding nominations, support candidates and policies that have a track record of efforts to take away our rights, and both will implement the unapproved policies and positions of back room lobbyists hired by mostly foreign corporations to reduce or eliminate their taxes and raise them for the middle and lower class. #DemocracyEH? Not in the Liberal Party anymore… pity.

  14. robins111 says:

Hates gun owners and likes to beat protestors. Wonder which one was the deciding factor for Justy?

  15. ABlanas says:

If he wins, he will be SO SCREWED by the double-crossing political venom in the Ottawa scene. Cop mentality does not have any compatibility with a political gang of liars and manipulators.

  16. Greg Vezina says:

    Just-in-Time for NOT-THIS-TIME.

  17. vicernie says:

he must have eyes on becoming minister of veterans’ affairs.

  18. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Warren,

Was I mistaken in thinking that the name Trudeau was — and is synonymous with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms???

  19. Lance says:

“The recruitment of Blair is a coup for Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and a boost for the Liberals in Toronto and across the country, given the profile of the former police chief, a senior party official told the Star.
    http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2015/04/25/bill-blair-to-run-for-liberals-in-fall-election.html#pq=MYaBBC

“He’s an excellent community leader. He’s got a depth of experience I don’t think you would find anywhere else in the country,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
    “We’re thrilled,” the official said.”

    “A senior party official.”

They’re not even willing to name who is responsible.

    LMAO

  20. Doris says:

Latest rumour Rob Ford is saying he will take Blair on. Definitely a NDP keeper if that’s the case

  21. gyor says:

Its already too late, the damage has been done, it’d be one thing if Bill Blair had decided to run for the nomination on his own, but the fact that he was wooed into running for the nomination says Trudeau and Butt the puppetmaster are okay with carding and violating civil rights during G20 protests. Even if as polling suggests Bill Blair takes out Dan Harris, which is no certainty this far ahead, it will cost them seats throughout other parts of Toronto, and drive out activists in the Liberal Party.

  22. sezme says:

While I found police behaviour abhorrent during the G20, I somehow believe that Blair was the fall guy for the RCMP who were really calling the shots.

Carding on the other hand is all Blair, and he needs to wear that racist policy.

See Demond Cole’s brilliant and important piece in Toronto Life for the effect carding and racial profiling in general has on black men in this city. It really turns my stomach how Blair and the Police Services Board can have allowed this to happen.

    • Matt says:

Bill Blair flat out lied on a number of occasions during the G20.

Like saying there was a law that said police could arrest anyone coming with 20 feet of the security fence.

Or telling people HIS officers were not using rubber bullets against peaceful protesters where video clearly showed they were.

  23. Derek Pearce says:

The only thing I hope comes from this is that his feet are put to the fire about the G20– people in his face demanding real answers for that sh*t show, especially the kettling incident.

  24. harvey bushell says:

I really would never have guessed that Blair would have had any interest in running for the Liberal party. He’s always been a conservative kind of guy, little c and big C from what I’ve seen.

I’d like to know what JT told/promised him to get him to sign up with the Libs. Certainly some kind of cabinet post if they win which of course is what we need.. a rookie, fake liberal ex police chief with no qualms about suppressing civil liberties when it suits him running (presumably) one of the law and order/safety government departments. Think Fantino the sequel.

I haven’t voted NDP in a number of years.. probably will this time though.

  25. Jack McLeod says:

Who better to carry the Liberal banner!! Remember the War Measures Act!

  26. Matt says:

Saw Blair on the CBC. He was asked about the G20.

His response was basically – “I did my best and I did what I thought was in the public’s best interest”.

Kettling and arresting hundreds of innocent, peaceful protesters and even some media was in the public’s best interest.

    Interesting.

  27. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Gerald,

I get it that you guys have adopted a strategy to seduce right-of-center disaffected Conservatives. In principle, there are more votes to get there — rather than hoping for a dilution of NDP support. So far, so good.

What you’ve gotten wrong is choosing this messenger — one hell of a lightning rod for progressive voters. The idea was to bleed right-wing voters in our favour. It wasn’t to do that while simultaneously telling left-wing voters by our action to simply Go Fuck Themselves. You unintentionally did, and they will right past Liberal signs with retribution awaiting in every progressive dominated ballot box.

  28. Devil's Advocate says:

Is Bill Blair really that bad? He did support the gun registry after all.

  29. davie says:

If Blair is the Liberal candidate in this riding, voters there will have a clear choice between him and the NDP candidate.

  30. DonW says:

If Blair gets the nomination, the NDP war room will have yet another piece of evidence to bolster their meme about Canada having two conservative parties, no? Given JT’s pronouncements on C-51 and the extension of the ISIS mission, this meme is growing all by itself. All the NDP has to do is quote what is happening.

    • Priyesh says:

Eve Adams and Bill Blair are still not leading the party. Most people will probably see their vote as a vote for a Prime Minister.

But I’ll be damned if I’m not really disappointed about the team that JT is assembling behind him.

    • Matt says:

Liberals voted against the ISIS mission.

  31. jeff316 says:

I’m no fan, but this will play well in that riding. I don’t think everyday voter get the incongruency of having Justin Trudeau as leader and Bill Blair as one of his candidates. This might galvanize a few soft NDP types and the Harris team but the outcome won’t be in doubt. Harris was always likely to end up a one-term MP anyway – that’s why Blair is running there. Aside for York South Weston, Scarborough Southwest is the weakest non-Liberal riding in Toronto.

  32. King Prick says:

    Mr. Kinsella,

Based on the two disgraces in Bill Blair and Eve Adams becoming candidates, why on earth do you still support the Liberals? I fear that you’re becoming a “blind Liberal.” that is to say; a Liberal who refuses to see the reality of what the party has become. After Mulroney, the Liberals began to fill up with Progressive Conservatives and began to lean right as opposed to maintaining centre left. Now, the party is inviting neo-con hacks and wannabe’s. How on earth can you still support a party that is moving away from you?

Honestly, I think it’s time to fish or cut bait. Either you support the Liberal Party or you understand and come to grips with the fact that Pearson and Trudeau are dead and gone and along with them, so too is their party. You’re not getting them back Warren. Perhaps you should do like that TV show, Intervention and write piece that begins with:

    Dear LPC,
I can no longer support you with money or my time if you continue to hurt me in the following ways:
    – Your leader is an idiot and makes horrible choices and makes me look stupid for supporting you
    – You have former PC’s as candidates, which I could live with. Scott Brison for example… Now though, you have self rightous windbags that are disgraceful as candidates like Bill Blair and Eve Adams. Pierre and Pearson are rolling in their graves like pigs on a spit.
    – You’re no longer left of centre but rather just left of Harper and all I can say is WTF?!

….Anyone else care to chime in? Bueller?

  33. Lance says:

“Justin Trudeau says he won’t second-guess Toronto police over conduct at G20 summit Liberal leader Justin Trudeau, introducing former Toronto police chief Bill Blair as a potential Liberal candidate, says he doesn’t want to second-guess the conduct of police during the G20 summit in Toronto in 2010.’

    http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2015/04/27/justin-trudeau-says-he-wont-second-guess-toronto-police-over-conduct-at-g20-summit.html#pq=XoSUP7

Okay Liberal supporters, how do you feel about that?

By the way, like he did for Blair, does Justin Trudeau deign to show up for the running announcement of EVERY Liberal nominee? Or only for high profilers like Eve or Blair?
