The most brilliant non-apology in the history of apologies, ever

A classic, for your amusement.

Pat Martin, who in my opinion is a dork, may think he won. But he’s actually lost.

What I like about Pat Martin is that he expresses a point of view shared by a good number of Canadians. His comments drive the upwardly striving bourgeoisie nuts, because they do not like to hear the point of view of Canadians they consider the unwashed hoi poloi (they work with their hands…with their ‘hands’…)and , especially, because he does not bow to them properly.

    • Warren says:

No, actually, he’s just a jerk. With a farmhouse on the island favoured by the one per cent.

      • Matt says:

He asked the party, unions and begged NDP supporters for donations to help pay his legal costs when he was sued for libel by RackNine after he shot his mouth off claiming they were knowingly involved in the Guelph election fraud case.

        Champagne Socialist.

      • Maps Onburt says:

Couldn’t agree more. Sanctimonious jerk. He’s the worst kind of politician. The kind that thinks he’s doing good when it is always all about him.

  2. Alan says:

That was so much fun, I had to read it twice.

  3. Luke says:

Dork indeed, but he’s good for a laugh.

  4. Tired of it All says:

    That is fantastic…

It would be more effective if Falcon-Oulette actually lived in Winnipeg Centre instead of an upper middle class suburb. Martin has a summer home in BC. Big deal. He actually lives in Winnipeg Centre. If Falcon-Oulette pledged to move to Winnipeg Centre if elected he would have more credibility.

That being said, Pat Martin does say come crazy things. I remember on election night in the last Winnipeg mayoral election, his former colleague, Judy Wasylycia-Leis lost the mayoral race. Martin was a studio analyst. One reason he said she fared poorly was her bad habit of waving her arms when she talked and it was distracting on camera. He said the joke about Judy was that if you threw her in the middle of Lake Winnipeg she would never drown because could talk herself to shore in about 2 minutes.

    • Mark says:

That bit about Judy is actually pretty hilarious. While she does wave her arms around way too much, its actually to compensate for her lack of depth when speaking on certain subject matters –and that’s really why she lost. For the record, I’m saying this as someone who was fairly involved in her campaign.

With regards to RFO not living in WPG-Centre, yeah its hypocritical but no one buys that Pat Martin actually lives in the riding full time. One provincial NDPer joked with me once and said “there is a difference between living in a riding and just owning property in a riding”. So Pat Martin’s over-sensitivity on the matter is a bit laughable since his own peers laugh about it as well.

But heres the thing, this all tells me how concerned Martin is of keeping his seat this election. RFO has huge name recognition going into this race and he cleaned up in the central Winnipeg area during last year’s Municipal election; completely boxing out Judy. Its not exactly the best of times for team NDP in Manitoba and the orange could have voters seeing red. I’m not saying Martin is going to lose his seat –he’ll probably end up keeping it– but maybe not by as large a margin as he thinks.

I agree with you about Ouellette in Winnipeg municipal politics. He is a part of some positive things happening in that city. He is running for Liberals, but that is okay…he and that guy from Winnipeg North would make a pretty strong team for Winnipeg in the House of Commons.

        • Mark says:

Absolutely. That Winnipeg North guy is one of the greatest constituent-focused politicians I’ve ever seen in my life, I can tell you that. He’s one of the few people who manage to actually be their ridings voice in Ottawa and not the other way around.

  6. Eric Weiss says:

Martin is a 1%er posing as a working class hero. He’s a buffoon that nobody takes seriously.

  7. the salamander hordes says:

    .. Pat Martin .. ok. Saltspring .. meh ..
and tho reluctant to be critical here or change the channel
looking forward to your comment on Stephen Harper
who never ever said.. he says
‘Um, they’re not high on our radar, Peter, to be honest’
regarding missing and/or murdered indigenous women
    Now there’s a non-apology ..

  8. davie says:

Okay…that’s it for comments on Pat Martin.

In the spirit of televised leader debates…I win.
