So remember when 2 brothers urinated on and then assaulted a 58-year-old homeless man in Boston and one of them admitted they were inspired by Donald Trump’s rhetoric?

It looks like Harper/Jason Kenney’s rhetoric just might be having the same effect:

Pregnant Muslim woman attacked by Montreal teens, police say
Investigators reluctant to call attack a hate crime, but haven’t ruled out possibility

Where your boat is leaking is that Harper or Kenney haven’t really said anything “Trumpish.”

    • DougM says:

And I doubt teens pay attention to Harper or Kenney

Nothing happens in a vacuum. We don’t live in a vacuum. An assault on a pregnant Muslim woman can’t be pinned on Harper or any other Con, except they are the ones stirring fear and outrage for their own political benefit. They are setting up the windmills for the stupid slogs to tilt and rage at because the pathetically stupid slogs can always be relied upon to tilt and rage on the pulpit chosen windmills: nazi’s, communists under the bed, cyclists, squeegee kids, panhandlers, The Irish, the nefarious of the moment. The Conservatives as they are presently inspired by their leader, are cynical, venal, ideologues driven by fantasy and a lust for power and privilege and will exploit every advantage to gain votes. You can’t blame them, but it is certainly their fault.

I know this tweet was just a succinct, funny way of describing the election and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, but I strongly disagree with the narrative circling around the punditry that JT’s trying to out-NDP the NDP. We’re seeing a new form of Liberalism both in the provinces and the federal level where tackling infrastructure deficits becomes the first priority. This is not a left-right issue. Yes, the funding commitment often means more taxes in but it’s also a commitment to Alternative Financing and Procurement, a model that the NDP have resisted for years based on ideological opposition to its reliance on the private sector. The deficits being proposed are modest and being presented in relation to a shrinking debt-to-GDP ratio. That’s why we’re seeing a lot of far from left-wing people like David Dodge and Larry Summers calling for this investment. And while personal income tax increases will always alienate some conservative voters, they’re much less dangerous to the economy than the corporate tax hikes the NDP are running on. Ultimately the bad corporations vs. good people narrative doesn’t hold up and people are starting to see through it.
