Beam me up

I am happier than Spock in episode 24, season one, This Side of Paradise!

Get ready to explore new worlds and seek out new life and new civilizations, because a brand new Star Trek television series will hit the air waves in 2017!

CBS Television Studios announced Monday that a new series is in the works, and will be produced by Alex Kurtzman. Kurtzman co-wrote Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek: Into Darkness. Sites reported he is currently looking for a writer for the new TV series. The television show will not be related to any of the theatrical reboots of the franchise.

    Can’t wait.

    Fingers crossed hoping it’s awesome.

  2. DougM says:

Excited about this too. Oh and…geek! 😉

  3. Derek Pearce says:

This is such awesome news! Fingers crossed they don’t screw this up and it’s more like TNG or Voyager than Enterprise. Live long and prosper WK!

TNG/DS9 were excellent. I’m with you on Enterprise, but I somehow hated Voyager, it always felt contrived/heavy handed to me. High hopes for this one– kinda interesting that, according to the article it’s “not related to any of the theatrical reboots of the franchise”– wonder if this means that the film universe and the new tv series universe will be different?

Both Enterpise and Voyager had good episides, major flaws, but some good episodes.

Yeah! Nerds of the world rejoice!

  6. RogerX says:

It won’t be for free on TV… you will have to buy the Star Trek channel… like the Playboy Channel ….

  7. Bill Spunska says:

Has there been a Star Trek stage play? I want to see Star Trek on Broadway! Shurly the geniuses who design theatrical effects can come up with a stageable transporter. Holodeck? Easy! Picard requesting “Earl Grey. Hot.”? Difficult. . .

Awesome! I actually loved Enterprise (especially the hot Vulcan T’Pol) but it did slow down a bit towards the end. That said, all of them are silly when watched 10 years later. Never was much of a DS9 or Voyager fan as I need the Enterprise but will anxiously await any Star Trek series. To boldly go….

    • W the K - No, not Warren says:

OmiGod I’m agreeing with Maps! Should go out and check the sky.

DS9 was The Mall In Space.

Voyager was Katharine Hepburn Runs A Starship.

Enterprise overcame a bad theme song and questionable casting choices with some very good storytelling. The show deserved a better fate.

But nothing – nothing – touches TOS.

  9. Brent Sienna says:

I wonder what the Mirror Universe Warren Kinsella would be like. Mandatory goatee to show his evil side and part of a band playing Duran Duran, Rick Astley and other assorted 80’s icons tunes?

    Live long and prosper!

  10. Caligula Jones says:

” by streaming the new series on CBS All Access, allowing all Star Trek fans (even those without convention televisions) the ability to pay $5.99 a month to watch the new show. ”

You’d think that geeks would know that this is definitely not over the “air waves”.

    Geeze.
