—Eight on Hateful Eight
1. It’s boring.
2. It’s too long.
3. The acting is bad.
4. It thinks beating women is funny.
5. It uses the N word so many times people walked out.
6. The violence isn’t just gratuitous, it’s pornographic.
7. There is no plot. None.
8. Tarantino hasn’t had an original thought in 25 years. And his latest is crap.
The premise could have been awesome. The juvenile, mysoginistic violence ruined it.
I never understood why so many people go apeshit over Tarantino’s movies. I know he has talent, but ultimately his movies are bullshit.
Seems to sum up North America pretty well.
What do you mean? North Americans think violence against women and the N word are just swell? Where do you live? Tarantino’s whole misguided juvenile point is that he thinks he’s being edgy and making a statement by putting these things that are rightly unaccepted by the wider society in his films. Looks like you miss the point too.
Derek, why does North America have such a thing for violence? Why are we so obsessed with it? Why do we glorify it? Haven’t seen the film but it sounds to me that, perhaps, that was his intention all along.
Sorry to have upset you but I think North Americans currently have a monopoly on violence, arrogance and self-righteousness.
Well I’m going to ask you distinguish between “America” and “North America”. Canadian-produced entertainment, whether in French or English, is not at all nearly as depicting of violence as American entertainment is. I guess my further question is why have you lumped Canada in with the gun gun gun gun gun obsessed United States?
Haven’t watched the movie but have seen the trailers and even those got me thinking it was going to be crap. Thanks for the warning.
I hate Hollywood violence. The critics who rave about it are quite literally sick in the head. The disgusting Revenant will also win awards galore and a pile of money. For what?
Just watch an ISIS video for free.
Do you seriously think FICTIONAL depictions of violence, racism, ect… the same as REAL violence, murder, rape, torture, theft, racism, ect… that you get from ISIS? You think watching somebody getting murdered for real is the same like at all?
In the seventies, movies were much more sexually explicit than today. One of the reasons for the reaction was a general inchoate sense that unacceptable, even dangerous, messages were being sent about sexuality, women, etc.. Also, whenever there is a Columbine-type tragedy, we worry about copycat actions by disturbed minds. Why would you believe everyone is immune from any negative effects of modern gore-porn? Do you think young psychos have a well-developed sense of the distinction between fact and fiction?
I was a fan when Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs hit the scene, but since then he’s become a parody of himself.
Concur. Both Hateful Eight and Revenant are way over the top, and in no way justify the violence and gore with other virtues.
I had hopes for The Revenant. Interesting book and far more subtle than the film.
Doesn’t that practically sum up most of what Hollywood produces these days?……..
I concur with the point on Tarantino, while I did enjoy “Inglorious Bastards” and thought it was greatly entertaining, the films he’s put out since then are like parodies of his hits. They overkill the Tarantino-ness of the movies and all essentially have the same plot-line..
Tarantino needs to take a break for a few years and let his mind refresh with new ideas, or at least let the audiences forget these recent films.
Check out ‘Sicario’ instead.
