Cotler is definitely one of the good guys. And I fear that this government may be betraying Cotler’s legacy by dragging its feet on passing a Canadian version of The Magnitsky Act (a cause that Cotler, to his credit, championed). This matter has not received the attention it deserves (which seems to suit Dion and JT just fine — they are not behaving like champions of human rights on this file so far). If you really want to get a taste of how atrocious things are in Russia on the human rights front, and why we should pass a Magnitsky Act, read Bill Browder’s book Red Notice. Or just look Google Sergei Magnitsky — and see what Putin’s cronies did to him.

I think as a general rule, something is smelly when the Conservatives look better than the Liberals on a human rights and anti-corruption file.
