—Blue jays, Beer and bad behaviour
Okay, I was in New York volunteering for that Hillary Clinton person, so I missed a lot of the controversy that has been riveting all of Toronto. You know, the one about the can of beer being thrown at an Orioles player at the Rogers Centre. It’s been big news, here in the centre of the universe.
I have no skin in this game, as it were. I’m a Red Sox fan, I didn’t know Ken Pagan when I wrote for the Sun, and I didn’t see what happened when it happened.
But the photo of Pagan, top, shows him drinking beer from a plastic cup. The photo of the incident, bottom, shows a beer can in mid-flight.
I ask you Blue Jays regulars: can you get beer in both cans and plastic cups at the Rogers Centre? Wouldn’t it be sort of weird to get both? Could someone else have, you know, thrown that beer can? Do fans come there armed with aluminum missiles to use on occasions like this?
I don’t, ahem, carry a can for this Pagan fellow. But it seems to me that he will be the beneficiary of the biggest libel action in Canadian history if the wrongdoer turns out not to be him.
Last time I was there, 2012 I think, draught was $10 a cup, no cans that I saw unless some one snuck it in. Anyhow, it’s waaay too expensive to be wasting it by throwing it around.
Never doubt the capacity of badly raised and easily led beer guzzling clods to live down to expectations.

Yes you can get both because some concession stands sell draft beer.
And. After this stupid incident I’m thinking all beer will be in plastic cups from here on in.
I think the woman behind him has a can in her hand.
And I know plenty of people (including myself when I was younger) that bring bottled/canned drinks into establishments only to pour the contents into an establishment container afterwards.
Idiotic move by whoever threw it.
The blond behind him…twice…hook shots. All over You Tube.
Police are now saying they have clear, high definition video showing the guy pictured tossing the can.
Quelle surprise, a Toronto sports-fan does something totally trashy and douche-y.
It looks like it is Ken: http://www.winnipegsun.com/2016/10/06/mischief-charge-in-blue-jays-beer-tossing
This is going to make for some fucking hilarious commentary. The jokes practically write themselves.
If this guy does end up getting fired, I hear the G&M has non-existent employee standards.
Every stadium has its boorish fans. Edmonton is the worst, but T.O. Is a close second.
Yes. The beer and popcorn people sell beers in cans. You only get plastic cups when you go to the concesssion stands yourself. Who opens a can and has a draft going at the same time? This isn’t fucking rocket science. That can is going to have finger prints on it. They should be able to catch who ever did it. Dry quickly but they aren’t doing their jobs. I really don’t think this guy did it. His picture is all over the News and his life will be ruined because the police couldn’t be bothered to take his name down along with everyone else in that section when it happened. Then they splash his name to the public asking him to turn himself in. I hope he sues their asses off if they are wrong. I’m normally all for the police but watching them sitting all over the field (in many cases right on it) to prevent this kind of crap and then watching how completely ineffective they actually are has made me wonder why they are there. Many other ball clubs don’t have obvious police presence like we do. It looks like we live in a police state and these cops are just getting paid to have the best seats in the house and aren’t actually doing their job anyway.
