In 2007, Amnesty International issued a report accusing China and Russia of supplying arms, ammunition and related equipment to Sudan, some of which the government may have transferred to Darfur in violation of a UN arms embargo. The report claims that Sudan imported 10-20 combat aircraft from China in the early-mid-2000s, including three A-5 Fantan fighters that have been sighted in Darfur. The report provides evidence that the Sudan Air Force conducted indiscriminate aerial bombings of villages in Darfur and eastern Chad using ground attack fighters and repurposed Antonov transport planes.

I recall seeing video footage of a very old helicopter dropping the equivalent of a barrel bomb in Darfur. It looked like a relic of the fifties. They were supporting a janjaweed slave raid in the territory that was emptied of Sudanese blacks around then. That was a long time ago, I think it was CBC news footage. Back when they used to have correspondents who went to the news. That was when the slave trade should have been crushed, when half a million new slaves were stolen away. Not a hope now. China is not bothered at all by slavery, they helped after all, just so long as they get the oil.
