25 years!

On way to Ottawa with Lisa to celebrate 25th anniversary of Rt. Hon. Jean Chretien’s massive 1993 win. Can’t believe it’s been that long.

My congrats to the happy couple. Here’s to another 25! 🙂

I know I’m not the only person who didn’t even vote for him in the first place to say this over the last 15 years, but *man* do I miss having him running the country.

I don’t, he made massive cuts to the social safety net then giving tax cuts to the rich. I do not have fond memories of that time. Between PM Chretien and Premier Mike Harris is was a time of attacks on the social safety net, education, and strikes. I don’t like PM Trudeau, but even he is a PM then PM Chretien.

I was 16 when this blood bath went down, and it marked a real “sit up and pay attention” moment for me. The size of that victory and the statement it made really grabbed my sophomoric ass and slapped me into paying more attention to the world around me.

Many happy returns to you both!

What statement? The Liberals won with 40% of the vote in 1993, pretty standard for a majority government. A sizeable win but not moreso than Harper 2011 or Trudeau 2015, and significantly less sizeable than Mulroney 1984 or Trudeau 1968.

    “Ok ok that’s enough, Warren.”

  5. Robert White says:

When Prime Minister Chretien was in power CANADA was smiling too. Good to see those same smiles twenty five years later.

Now all we have to do is talk him into running again, eh.
