As Canadians we often don’t understand the nuances of U.S. presidential politics. Biden initially was not selected to beat Trump. No, I’m not advocating any conspiracy theory or secret collusion between powerful Washington elites.
Rather the simple reality is that presidents generally don’t lose re-election campaigns unless there is major third-party interference (Ross Perot), or some major political scandal erupts. Back when Biden emerged as frontrunner, the economy was rather strong, the COVID pandemic had not yet hit, and this was long before the U.S. erupted in violent protests surrounding racial justice.
So there was no serious reason for Democrats to believe that Trump might not be re-elected.
What was happening within the Democratic Party at the time was internal power-struggle between the party’s centrist wing and the party’s hard left. Speaker Pelosi, who has been around a lot longer than Representative AOC, could see the party’s moderates and centrists being pushed into the GOP. Which is why she carried out an internal purge of AOC’s key activists.
Biden was chosen at the Democratic presidential nominee not so much to beat Trump (although Democrats would not be sad if he emerged as POTUS) but to protect the “Democratic brand” among moderate, centrist, and independent voters for Democratic candidates down-ticket.
Basically, he was chosen to protect Democratic control of the House, and to take back the Senate. It was not until Trump’s handling of COVID and the fallout from George Floyd’s death that Democrats had any real hope of Biden being elected president.

That is not factual Daryl. That is a lie. So your post is not backed by “factual references”. FFS, the Republican-controlled Senate Intelligence Committee has twice issued reports emphatically concluding that Russia did indeed run a massive election interference operation in 2016. So did the House Intelligence Committee. So did the Mueller Report (you know, the report that Bill Bar lied about).
Trump’s very own Director of National Intelligence is similarly on record. So is the entire US Intelligence community.
