There are I guess two possibilities here:
1) PP truly is full-on batshit crazy and is going to take the Conservatives down with him in a blaze of glory.
2) He’s going to do an O’Toole and pivot in a federal election to suddenly moderate, only he thinks “no no really, I can do it, I’m special, the base will come along this time.” I think in either case he’ll be sorely disappointed.

My party is in a rut, one that puts the emphasis on winning the popular vote but royally blowing the election for serial failure of attracting moderates and centrists who are at least fed up with this Prime Minister. And so forward we go, without learning anything, with a high probability right back onto the opposition benches. Somewhere, Dief is scowling.
Yup, he’s got it almost in the bag. Charest and Brown can’t pull it off on their own. Not a chance. They need Aitchison and Lewis, otherwise just forget it.
On Ukraine, there is absolutely no way, even indirectly, to justify this evil slaughter of Ukrainians nor Putin’s conduct which quite frankly has made him the most serious candidate for ICJ adjudication. If Putin ultimately swings at The Hague, he’ll only have himself to blame, period.
But our side made two grievous and duplicitous errors in the 1990s: remember that both Yeltsin and Putin sought NATO membership and were summarily rebuffed. In light of today’s genocide in Ukraine, that possibility should have been seriously entertained and explored by NATO. And yet it was not.
The other fly in the ointment concerns NATO expansion generally: the consensus of opinion is that NATO did not offer written assurances to the Soviets or Russians about an eastward expansion. However, one can seriously question the nature of the verbal representations made to Gorbachev and Yeltsin. It is not beyond the pale to make the case that said verbal assurances were very likely of a far more comprehensive nature than those eventually put to paper. In short, NATO played Gorbachev and Yeltsin and that was a definite precursor to the horrible geopolitical environment we find ourselves in today. So, NATO and the West certainly haven’t earned any gold stars on this one.
