The thing is, there are a lot of Trump supporters who are simply straight-ticket Republican voters, and who aren’t particularly tuned in to everything Trump does.

For those supporters, they just miss or ignore a lot of the most outrageous stuff that Trump does and says. Some of it is just them tuning stuff out, not paying attention, some of it is wilful blindness and so on.

Also, remember that a lot of right-leaning media outlets give minimal or cursory play to the more stupid and outrageous things Trump does. And the really really harcore outlets, like Breitbart, will simply not cover certain negative stories about Trump at all. E.g., Breitbart recently has given zero coverage to some very negative court losses that Trump has suffered in recent days. I mean zero.

So the fact is, I’m willing to bet that if you polled a bunch of Trump supporters on this QAnon thing (and I mean the full spectrum of Trump supporters, from hard-core whackjob to rather disengaged but straight-ticket Republican voter), the overall awareness level would be low.

I’m not sure I’d agree with your awareness level suggestion. I think the vast majority of those who voted for Trump are either very aware or fully aware of the allegations against him. They just don’t care.
It’s not like that’s unique to the US. Here in Canada, I suspect everyone was aware of Trudeau’s blackface – at a minimum – but they still voted Liberal. They knew, but they didn’t care.
I would agree that the media biases – on both sides – have contributed to the matter. Sure, most of the right wing outlets have given Trump a soft pass on a lot of things but then you have the Trump Derangement Syndrome on the other side.
Trump said COVID escaped from the lab and the media goes apeshit calling him a racist. Now, not so much anymore.
I think it’s less about supporting the person but growing distrust and hatred of the political establishment. All Trump did was capitalize on it. and while you can criticize him for any number of things, he is a master opportunist.

  2. Warren,

2024 is like in another lifetime and the polling trend is already clear even among MAGA and other Republicans: Trump’s numbers are steadily dropping. With each stupidity, each antic he drops further among Republicans. He’s below 50% now and with God’s help may that continue! That’s what a POS deserves in spades.

I miss Q’Anon for the late night laughs.
