It’s a bit concerning when we actually might need to hope for Putin to emerge victorious over Wagner Group, because Putin is the less-insane of the two with regard to nukes.

Honestly, I won’t have any trouble sleeping. The beauty of nuclear deterrence is the MAD concept. That keeps the nukes in the box given the fact that no matter who uses them, and regardless of whom they are used against, the conflict must inevitably escalate to a response posture. So…even a demon seed will keep his or her arsenal in a lock box.
Too funny. Prigozhin has been royally played by Lukashenko. Prigozhin needed to move as quickly as possible on Moscow, to win, or at least survive personally. The only thing now in Prigozhin’s future is either the end of a noose, or a firing squad. Boy, has he ever been clearly outmanoeuvred by Putin.
However, offing Prigozhin is a big mistake in the medium term: why did state TV go live? Because they know perfectly well that at least a plurality of the people are with Prigozhin. So, in the end, Putin may end up cutting his own throat if he kills Prigozhin.
Meanwhile, Biden spoke with the German Chancellor, French President and British Prime Minister about the situation in Russia. No call from him, to our great leader.
I read a commentary today which suggested this whole thing could be a charade co-orchestrated by Putin and Wagner Group – to tease out anti-Putin members of the Russian military who went to join Wagner in the alleged (non-)coup.
It just seems things de-escalated awfully quickly, and I’m curious as to why. Apparently Stalin did similar things in the 1930s.

Out-and-out fascists don’t operate that way: if Prigozhin had a legitimate shot to be the new dictator, boy would he ever take it. He would want more defections, not less, from the Shoigu-Gerasimov crowd, neither of which are career officers.
I’m no fan of Putin, but the folks who eventually replace him could be worse – apparently the made up, a deal brokered by Belarus – still, the cracks in Putin’s crony regime are wide open.

I remember the fall of the Soviet Union. A reporter followed A little grandma with a ring of rusty keys opening a cheap Soviet lock on a rotten wooden door and walking over to a wheezing Soviet refrigeration that held tubes of biological death inside a empty rusting coffee can.
