—The future
My oldest best friend Pierre lives in Kelowna. Thursday, their neighbourhood was evacuated by police, hammering on doors to tell people to get out. They left with nothing. Very worried about them – and everyone where wildfires are raging.
Warren,
May God be with them. I can’t believe how so many died in their cars fleeing the flames in Maui. What a horrible way to go.
My mom and sister live in Kelowna. I hope the fires end soon.
Scary. Hope they are ok. I had a staff person email me Thursday to tell me she was flying to BC at 6am. To bring her daughter to tour the school she will be going to in the fall. I find out(when she didn’t make it-currently being put up by the airline at the Fairmont in Lake Louise after being forced to land in Calgary) they were flying in to Kelowna to tour UBC Okanagan. Not sure why the flight and the tour weren’t cancelled given what was going on late last week. But I guess there are worse places to be stuck.
Also know some folks in that area. Was relieved to hear they got out early.
Climate change isn’t going anywhere. Some of these cities will experience this over and over again, for the rest of our lives, and I think some will never fully recover.
It must seem apocalyptic for those poor people. My heart goes out to them. I hope they will be okay, and not lose their home.
Hope your friend ok. Things look no better this morning.
Prayers for your friends and for everyone being forced to flee, as well as for the safety of our emergency workers out there. And prayers for friends and family too, that they may receive confirmation their loved ones are safe.
