To those attacking Doug Ford for saying the truth

To pretend that those behind the explosion in antisemitism share our values is to be deeply stupid. They clearly don’t, whoever they are. Shooting up schools and firebombing places of worship is not a Canadian value.

Being “woke,” now, could cost your neighbor his/her life.

As a staunch supporter of diversity / pluralism, I 110% agreed with what Ford said.

To twist it around as if it was anti immigrant is disgraceful.

Further, I think people would be surprised with how many immigrants *agree* whole heartedly with his comments. There has probably never been a moment when a white Canadian politician more accurately spoke *on behalf of* all the immigrants he represents.

Ford is right – 99% of the people that come here are fantastic, beautiful folks that contribute positively to Canadian society.

But anyone who comes to this country should be leaving the old world problems back in the old world. No more holy wars, and no more willful participation by Canadians. The violence-preaching religious zealots of Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, or any other faith background all have one thing in common:

They can all fuck off. And we should have a government and law enforcement that makes it so they do.

  3. Warren,

I get where Ford is coming from. I can’t say I necessarily disagree, but I would have held off until the various investigations had a pretty good idea of whom the suspects were. Maybe they come from the immigrant community, and perhaps not. Some will say this is a distinction without a difference. Perhaps, but I go at it from the perspective of perception.

      • Salamander,

Some don’t want to face an inconvenient truth: given what is happening on university campuses, there’s a pretty good chance that the suspects are Canadian citizens. It’s not a lead-pipe cinch, but there it is. It’s at least 50-50.

The two aren’t mutually exclusive. An immigrant’s mindset does not change when citizenship is attained. You’re likely right that the perps are possibly or probably Canadian citizens, also quite likely that the same individuals identify as part of a cultural group based in their country of origin.
