Been a fan for a long time.

  1. Warren,

Harris needs to shake up this race, and she won’t radically do that if she chooses as VEEP the usual establishment Democratic prospects.

Hope she’s far more politically sophisticated than that.

    • Sean says:

Will disagree with you on that one. The race is already shaken up by her ascendance to the top of the ticket. Over night, the race is already a wildly unfamiliar world for most Americans. “Old white guy establishment” is exactly what she needs to balance the ticket. I am thinking Gov Roy Cooper NC.

      • Jason says:

I agree with Sean. One of the swing state governors is the right call as VP. Cooper or Mark Kelly would be the best fits IMO, but Harris seems to be rather chummy with Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania lately. Shapiro is a solid centrist governor of a purple state, but a hardline Israel supporter (much moreso than Biden has been historically). That carries some extra clout with independents, but inherent risks to the energy of the left wing vote – you can already picture “The Squad” threatening to blockade the doors to the DNC unless Harris picks someone else.

Cynically – I actually think that play works out for the Democrats in the end, at least for this election.

      • Sean,

It’s one thing to move one essential state into our column. Choosing another VEEP who will help you move more than one state into your column is quite another. Let’s face it, Trump already has a built-in advantage in the EC, so moving one critical state isn’t about to cut the mustard.

        • Douglas W says:

          Ronald,
It’ll be Mark Kelly, as the Democrat VP.
Strong contributor, but won’t be enough.

Harris, the Border Czar, is going to get roasted.
The attack ads against her are going to be grim.

          • Douglas,

People are going to say that I’m a fucking moron. My gut says Harris wins. My mind is somewhat uneasy. That SUPREME asshole has so many black marks given by the divine, I can’t believe he gets in again, EC or no EC. I put my faith in the goodness, fairness and decency of most Americans. And if that SOB can have a stroke or massive coronary in the interim, you won’t see me crying, to quote Tutu.

          • Warren,

Yup, it’s going to be the thumping of the century! How people forget: from Day 1 more than a majority of Americans wanted neither Biden or Trump…so, inevitably, the polls will break massively in Harris’ favour. That asshole Trump will get the shellacking of a lifetime. Can’t wait. It’s coming fast in the polls.

  2. Warren,

Meanwhile, over at the amoebas that roared, the gutless Liberals are still letting Trudeau run circles around them. What a bunch of spineless jellyfish.

Thanks so much for contributing to the CPC victory in the next election. Don’t get me wrong — we’re grateful, from Pierre on down.

    • Douglas W says:

      Ronald,
Looming, another by-election disaster for the Liberals.
They’re going to lose LaSalle—Émard—Verdun because they parachuted in a candidate against the wishes of the local riding membership.

As for Justin, he’ll shrug, once again.

      • Douglas,

Kind of depends. If the Bloc is normally in second place, maybe. But Quebec and La Métropole aren’t natural CPC territory. I don’t see the CPC winning this one.

        • Jason says:

If the Liberals lose, it’ll be to the NDP or the Bloc. Given that they won the riding by well over 20 points in 2021, it would be seismic. In this case, I suspect the Liberals will hold on to the seat, but by a mere point or two.

        • Douglas W says:

Suspect it’ll be the NDP: strong candidate.

  3. WestGuy says:

It’s not so much who the Democrats like, it’s who the voters like and I get the sense that Harris isn’t nearly as popular with the general electorate as she is with the Democratic party itself. As for who she picks as her VP, she almost has to go with a white male because if she goes with anything else it may be viewed as a DEI ticket, which would be a big negative.

    • Peter Williams says:

What’s wrong with a DEI ticket?
      It would be very progressive.

      AOC for vice-president?

      • Peter,

I’m proud DEI. But AOC can’t run as she is constitutionally ineligible. She’s only 34. Next year, she’ll be eligible.

Harris will choose a white man for “balance” on the ticket.

      • Gilbert says:

        One socialist is enough.

        • Gilbert,

It would help if you pulled out your dictionary. Harris has tried to pass herself off as a centrist but in fact, she’s a progressive. But by no stretch of the imagination is she a socialist.

Most progressives are already on board. That speaks volumes. Centrist Democrats want her to move more to the middle to get elected. Harris will do that on certain issues, but not across the board.

  4. Warren,

Harris just hit 1976 delegates. It’s now a done deal! Great, in my book.

  5. Warren,

    For Kamala:

Clean that old SOB asshole’s clock! You go, girl.

  6. Warren,

May this be the beginning of the end politically for that world-renowned POS.

    From Reuters:

“Exclusive: Harris leads Trump 44% to 42% in US presidential race, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds

Vice President Kamala Harris opened up a marginal two-percentage-point lead over Republican Donald Trump after President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign and passed the torch to her, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

Harris, whose campaign says she has secured the Democratic nomination, led Trump 44% to 42% in the national poll, a difference within the 3-percentage-point margin of error.”

  7. Phil in London says:

3 weeks ago this campaign was a dreadful choice between 2 tiring old men.

Then one of them looked so bad it looked to be over.
Next the “winner” of that debate turned his convention into a circus and why not? He’d beat an assassin’s bullet and appeared ready to carry the presidential vote.

Perhaps the smartest part of the Biden departure was waiting till the circus tents came down. In only a few days Kamala Harris has turned this campaign on its ass! I’m sensing both an excitement but at the same time a calmness in how the Democrats might just keep the gains of 2022 as well as keep the highest office.

I’ve not been a Harris fan because I’ve simply not seen her. I can’t get enough of her demeanour and her drive. It shouldn’t matter but often forceful women sound shrill when being passionate – Not this lady – She’s very appealing to just close your eyes and listen to.

My only skepticism is how did Democrats think keeping Joe Biden was ever an option?

I write these comments asking y’all to keep in mind I’m pretty conservative but not a trumpist. I’m very impressed and relieved that just maybe Donald Trump is no longer the best of a bad lot in many American eyes.

Let’s see what another couple weeks bring

  8. Warren,

In my heart of hearts, it should be Kamala and Pete. That would be both incredibly gutsy and politically risky. I don’t think Harris has it in her to make such an unconventional choice. She’s probably scared that two history-making candidates on the ticket is too much for a plurality of voting Americans.

    • Jason says:

I like Pete. Super intelligent and well spoken. My issue with him is he comes across to the public like Mark Zuckerberg does – like some kind of AI android pretending to be human.

  9. joe long says:

I am somewhat mystified why Joe Biden decided not to run for re-election, Three weeks ago his staff, the media, and senior Democrats were saying Biden “was as sharp as a tack”

Then yesterday in his oval office address he listed all his Presidential accomplishments Democrats lauded him with praise.

    Why did he step down?

    • Warren says:

They were waiting for a bunch of polls. Polls came in.

      Polls decided it.

      • joe long says:

        Interesting.

If polls show Harris is behind will they dump her too?

      • Joe,
        Warren,

I heard that traditional blue or blue-leaning states were headed Trump’s way if Biden remained the nominee. Apparently, it was rather grim, so Biden had no choice but to finally cave.

    • Jason says:

Because when Republican officials are full of shit, they double down over and over and over again, long past the point of anything resembling reason or sanity, and will never back down in the face of reality.

Democrats only do it a few hundred times before eventually admitting they fucked up.
