His dilemma
Not every Canadian Conservative is a Trump fan. But every Canadian Trump fan is a Conservative.
That’s Poilievre’s dilemma, and it’s why he’s been quiet: how does he rebut Trump – as Stephen Harper did so well – without losing the MAGA North jerks who make up 25% of his base?
Respectfully, I think you’re misreading the room on this Warren. Most of the MAGA North folks would be pleased to have strong leadership in Canada and to poke the progressives in the eyes, in that order.
Trump satisfies the second desire, but they would see the former as a win on all counts.
I really felt like Trudeau and Leblanc blew it when they came back from their visit with Trump. Leblanc should have said something like “the president might have been joking, but in Canada we don’t find it very funny – we’re proud of our country, and we will always fight to protect our sovereignty by any means necessary”
I think his big polling numbers are vulnerable – a lot of people picking conservative are gonna take a second look at Trump, I mean Poilievre, and choose a different direction – he just isn’t a likeable guy. I did a poll of my workplace, just verbally amongst the women – none of them want Poilievre – they identify as conservative, but they don’t care for the prince of poison.
Either that didn’t happen or they are humouring you. That’s the funny part. Pierre is very likely UNDERPOLLING.

I think it’s hard for Poilievre to be critical of Trump because his base adores him. His polling numbers aren’t entirely his base, obviously – so all those new votes he picked up from disaffected liberals could easily sway back, especially with his Trump predicament – sorry Pierre, this election is gonna be about Trump, not the carbon tax –

I know you’d like to believe that but I know many left wingers who actually love Trump and also bought into the vaccine and Covid conspiracies. In fact my NDP supporting ex union president has become a full blown MAGA man. You like to forget that Trump is a Democrat carpet bagger that only became and then took over the Republicans because he saw opportunity in the power vacuum that existed. Most of Trumps policies are in fact more in line with protectionist anti trade Democrats. Hopefully Republicans will wake up to that soon.
Maybe Poilievre is not getting into the Trump tizzy as he will have to deal with him as a professional adult and coming out as an inconsolable toddler may affect any chance he has of working with the orange baboon in the future. Most Liberals/ NDP are not Jew hating anti Semites but there appears to be as many in their ranks as there are MAGA fans in the Conservatives ranks. IMHO
I thought federal party leaders were pretty much united. Even Maxime Bernier has come out swinging against Trump…
I think Pierre is not the answer. I personally think that change is important in any Democracy but I think that Pierre is showing a deep absence of leadership.
Pierre is Trump North – a bombastic loud mouth liar, manipulator – nothing with that guy is clear or honest or real – everything he says spawns from his boloney factory
