Signed up last night! There are so few Liberals in Brant, I could have a disproportionate influence on the outcome and I am all in for Chandra.

  2. Warren,

Expect the unexpected! The Liberals will go with Carney but it only takes one gaffe that is perceived as major to sink a leader. Remember that Stanfield caught MOST of the footballs but…people were looking for an excuse to stay with Trudeau and they found it, flimsy as it was.

Carney comes off as The Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. He’s totally robotic and clueless when it comes to being a politician and his French is not worth mentioning, to be polite. Liberals love power and see Carney as their only vehicle to get there next time. This may be Carney’s leadership to lose but it will be Pierre’s election to lose. Harper imposed caucus discipline in 2006, unlike in 2004 as you mentioned. I expect Poilièvre to do the same. Like Brian said, campaigns matter and someone will blow it in the next one. Right now, the odds favour that Carney will be the one who throws it away. Time will tell and respective leader performance will either make or break a campaign. Fun times ahead.

I don’t think his French is so bad, but more important is what people in Quebec think. His French website has many errors. Maybe it’s just a poor translation of his English website.

      • Gilbert,

Let’s pretend you and I were both running for Liberal leader. I know it’s the stretch of the century — both of us would be smart enough to make sure that our French language website would be impeccable from the get-go. But No, not Carney. It isn’t important enough for him. All he cares about is his perceived entitlement to obtaining power. He’s decided he’s waited long enough and foolish Liberals are knocking each other over to install this untested and unqualified person as an unelected prime minister. This won’t end well for the Liberals. Their continued lust for power blinds them. What Pierre will do to them in the campaign will be at least epic. It will be memorable to watch!

      • I’m really grateful for Carney: I had no idea we had deputies in the House of Commons. I guess you learn something every day…

      • Martin,

I would put Freeland first, since she’s already sinking fast so she could use my “vote”. I do like Gould’s guts though. She represents a new generation which is A-OK in my book. I wish her the best in this race.

    • Douglas W says:

      Ronald, great to see you.
Carney for the win, two rounds of voting, tops.
Ultimate question: when do we march to the polls?

      • Douglas,

        Thank you. Likewise.

I don’t know, Douglas. You’ve gamed it more tightly than I would but you could be bang on. I see it this way: at least 1/3 of the vote is ABF, 1/3 is ABC so it depends how much drop off each candidate gets in subsequent rounds. This presents an opportunity for Gould to pull in a much stronger showing in subsequent ballots than people initially anticipated. After round one, I see Freeland fading and Gould picking up votes. Will Freeland at some point throw her support to Gould and how much of her people would follow her? If both Freeland and Gould are intent on stopping Carney, can they accomplish it? Looks like a tall order right now. But as we all know, in politics, anything can happen.

        • Douglas W says:

          Horrific Sunday for the Libs:
Nathan E-S, going creepy on Lantsman.
Chandra Arya, disqualified presumably for signing up too many supporters.
Brilliant Liberals come up with more creative ways to lose control of the narrative.
          These guys are “good”

      • It will be a Jagmeet election. Once the Liberals have a new leader, Singh will look at the polls. If the Liberals take off by getting a significant bounce, expect Jagmeet once again to chicken out. If the NDP gets a bounce because the left doesn’t like Carney, then non-confidence here we come at the very first opportunity.

  3. Gilbert says:

Chandra Arya wasn’t going to win, but why was he disqualified? Is it because he doesn’t speak French? Ina democracy, shouldn’t he be allowed to run?
