—Marx on the Liberal leadership and stuff
Marx: “The mass of the people have a sound aesthetical common sense. They have an instinctive hatred against everything ambiguous.”
This is why Trump won. This is why Carney may lose.
Warren,
We rarely disagree but in my mind, the fix is already in. The movers and shakers think establishment candidate Carney is the be-all and end-all and that he can turn this around for them, so much so that they’ll win. So, it’s more of a conclave than a leadership race to anoint Carney as the so-called Liberal saviour. In other words, Ignatieff II. Don’t think it will work out better for them than it did last time. But he will be PM for a time so nothing is impossible.
At this point, I would put it at 50-50. I don’t think a not immaterial number of the new members have voted Liberal the last three elections.
I second Ronald: the fix is definitely in
Douglas,
Freeland must be frustrated to use a polite word.
I agree the fix is in but it will be interesting to see what happens if Carney doesn’t actually WIN the most votes.
Shocked if Carney actually wins the most votes.
My hunch: it’ll be Ruby, who has the most support.
Betting the shredding machines are working at full tilt, long before the result is announced.
Martin,
When was the Liberal Party representative of a democracy?
Elitists embrace democracy, only when it’s convenient
Mark Carney is like Michael Ignatieff. He has no political experience.
Who is the unambiguous one in the bunch then?
On Marx, another quote from the article by the NP’s Foster that is making the rounds:
“Carney draws inspiration from, among others, Marx, Engels and Lenin, but the agenda he promotes differs from Marxism in two key respects. First, the private sector is not to be expropriated but made a “partner” in reshaping the economy and society. Second, it does not make a promise to make the lives of ordinary people better, but worse. Carney’s Brave New World will be one of severely constrained choice, less flying, less meat, more inconvenience and more poverty: “Assets will be stranded, used gasoline powered cars will be unsaleable, inefficient properties will be unrentable,” he promises.”
None of those restrictions will impact folks like him, natch.

In other words, he supports capitalism for the elites and communism for everyone else.
A continuation of the last 10 years.
