MoronTrumpTM is going to bring in a 10% tariff on Canadian oil. The dipshit isn’t smart enough to know that American Gulf Coast refiners will end up paying it. Ha, ha, ha. He really is a blithering idiot on his best day. The American Energy lobby along with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will be up his sorry orange ass in a New York minute.
For Trump, de-escalation telegraphs weakness. Trudeau did not get that. Smith doesn’t get that. Accommodation and compromise are anathema to Trump and Company so there is no logical reasoning with this bunch of imbeciles. The level-headed professional class are not part of this Trump nightmare and it shows that self-implosion fortunately, is the inevitable result. Shitface is the next Buchanan as president.
If de-escalation telegraphs weakness, then what do you do?
Scorched earth, not the most ideal option.
Sooner or later (most likely later), there will need to be conversation.
Unfortunately, that conversation will be with a mad man, who refuses to flinch.
The best we can do is coordinate internationally so that we all work in concert regarding our retaliatory tariffs: that means Canada, Mexico, and, if they are also tariffed, the EU, the UK, and any other major industrial nation affected that is a liberal democracy. Might makes right. We win as a block. We lose big if we go at it individually.
Great lyric.
Warren,

James Carville: Won’t be long before Trump starts punching himself in the face.
Is Danielle going to fight this or just say as usual, more please!? Thank you, Uncle Trump…
Good thing Pierre is much smarter than Smith is.
Deescalation might be the most prudent move but … who do you send to Washington to try and calm matters down?
It’s a bit of a stretch, but I’d probably go with Stephen Harper.
Douglas,

I would still send Harper but Trump hates his guts, like he hates Freeland.

Wrong lyric, Boyo. ‘I’m so bored with the USA…’
This.
