Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador have all pulled American booze from their shelves. What about the rest of you?
Wake up now!
We need to squeeze Trump by the balls in order to win. Their only vulnerable point is energy. That’s why the Trump tariff on oil and gas is only 10%. They remain desperate for our oil and gas. So, absolutely no carve- outs for any energy sector. Canadians won’t stand for it and our politicians better get that from the get-go. If the CPC fails to embrace this, we will lose the next election to the Carney Liberals. Period.
PEI, NWT and Yukon are also on board. New Brunswick will let us know on Monday.
Still no word from AB, SK and Nunavut on suspending American liquor sales. (Don’t count on Smith, she is still too busy sucking up. It won’t work.)
And by the way, it’s bullshit that her intervention is why the oil and gas tariffs are only at 10%. If it was set at 25%, the price at the American gas pump would skyrocket and that would mean political trouble for Trump, MAGA , federal and state Republicans. End of story. Don’t fall for Smith’s not-so-clever gaslighting. She sure learns fast from Trump…
It is bullshit Ronald – you’re exactly right. Makes clear how important those sectors are the the Americans when they discount the terrif – so that’s exactly where we should hit them.
Reporting in from an undisclosed location in American territory. Now I am in a blue state so someone said on X that I will be allowed back into Canada. The liquor boycott seems to be a no brainer although, at least as far as beer goes, why would anyone drink it anyway? The other issue is that it makes headlines but we represent only 1/3rd of 1% of their sales. Which would be 1/6th of 1 per cent of the industry bottom line probably(tops). We also sell more to them than we buy. Strikes me as more symbolic than anything.
I realize it is easier said than done given Smith, but I would turn off the taps and let them freeze in the dark for a few days. Forget tariffs. Just shut off the taps.
Futures don’t seem to be in full panic mode yet. The DOW and TSX futures are only down to the levels seen on inauguration day so that won’t get T’s attention-at least today.
Potential frozen pipes in the red states next to the 49th parallel might.
Another way to target the U.S. is travel.
Avoid traveling to the U.S. altogether if you can, but next-best is avoiding red states. There are lots of maps available online which show voting patterns over the past few Presidential elections. Here are some preferred options:
1. Avoid Florida and Arizona (both red states), and instead go to California or Hawaii.
2. Avoid Montana (for skiing) and go to Colorado instead.
3. Avoid Las Vegas, and go to Atlantic City (gambling) or NYC (entertainment) instead.
4. For those of us in the prairies, avoid North Dakota and go to Minnesota instead.
The problem with that plan is you have to look at it county by county. Even in the blue states, the democratic vote is centered in a few areas. NY for example is primarily red.
I am now on a different device and I see I need to fix my sign in on each one(now fixed I think). I am not clear on what that + thingie is supposed to do. Honestly, if this is some outside force, I find it quite funny that anyone would care about what I have to say. I’m mostly on here f0r the tunes.

I got that weird thing in my name too.
Plus thing.
Martin,
The Three Musketeers are viewed as a threat by someone whose name is not Warren.

There’s no need to remove liquor from store shelves. Canadians will buy more local products. Let the consumer decide. We don’t need the nanny state.
Peller has climbed 10% since this all started. I guess folks have forgotten some people are upset at 99,
Make that 25%. Nice hedge against the tariffs.
