Mmmm…going to get my hair shirt on before I hear what Andrew has to say.

    • Douglas+W says:

108,000-plus viewers for Poilièvre’s Canada First Reinvestment Tax Credit announcement today on social media.
      Folks are paying attention.
Abacus Data suggests the ballot-box question is change.

      • Douglas,

Without Ontario, we lose. Are both machines working at full tilt to get us the win? No. So, that says all you need to know about what’s really going on in this campaign en Ontario…

People aren’t as stupid as some people believe. They’re about to find that out.

  2. Caleb says:

It would take decades to detach from the US economy. Ignore the rhetoric and understand that both sides will eventually sit down and hash out a new deal. Canada will obviously give up a lot.

Why is Trump friendly to Carney? Maybe he doesn’t want to torpedo negotiations before it starts, or maybe Canadians should ask Mark Carney about Brookfield Property’s 99 year lease on 660 Fifth Ave, which is currently owned by Jared Kushner and his family. Mark Carney was BOE Governor when Brookfield acquired the lease, but he has overseen the radical transformation of the building. Citadel, which is run by Ken Griffin, rents nearly half of the building. He donated $100 million to Republicans in 2024.

I have also noticed that Elon Musk has barely weighed in on Canada’s election. Maybe it is because Brookfield put up $250 million for X in 2022?

Canadians should ask Carney if Brookfield’s $276 billion Bank of China loan to refinance Shanghai’s real estate purchases in Nov 2024 will make him more likely to sell out Canada to China. There are many more Brookfield/China deals that raise questions about Carney’s connections to China.

But somehow we are supposed to believe Canadian mainstream media when they suggest that Pierre Poilievre will sell out Canada? Canadians are truly stupid.

    • Caleb,

Pierre knows what he has to do to regain the confidence and trust of Canadians…so just fucking do it. And get rid of Byrne, pronto! Byrne at the helm of the war room guarantees an election loss. Boy, will I have fun rubbing his nose in it when we lose thanks to Byrne and Company.

    • Martin Dixon says:

That does not even consider his Goldman Sachs past. The banker that played a very large part in almost bringing down the world economy in 2008 because of products folks like Carney both created and then played both sides of. And now we are supposed to pat him on the back for bringing us back from the brink of that disaster. It’s silly.

Google Matt Tiabbi and Goldman Sachs. Guys like Carney are basically a punchline. Then, there are the tax free Brookfield funds. They figured out a way to get around the income trust shut down by doing a return of capital from Bermuda funds:

It is hilarious that the NDP is buying into this shite.

    • Caleb,

All of the above are legitimate concerns and insightful points, but they’re inside baseball and can’t get serious traction. None of them are what we need to win. In short, Pierre has to attack Trump DIRECTLY far more forcefully and frequently when the next round of American tariffs comes on April 2nd. And far more importantly, to change the leadership dynamic in this race and remove it from Carney, Pierre has to pledge that an incoming CPC government will not only match Trump tariff for tarrif but will do what the Liberals refuse to do: make sure that all our reciprocal tariffs across the board are for double the percentage the American tariffs are. If Trump goes from 25 to 50, then a Conservative government goes from 50 to 100. That’s the only kind of strength that Trump understands and RESPECTS, and it’s the only way to get him to back down and prematurely abandon his tariffs.

      • Martin Dixon says:

Interesting point about Musk though because all the Tru-anons thought he was going to be just as involved up here as he was in the US. They were afraid of it. Silence. Mmm.

  3. Warren,

The ideologically pure wing of the CPC would say that Coyne was anti-Pierre from the get-go. Take that one either at face value or with a grain of salt. As you wish.

    • Martin Dixon says:

Chretien supporter sticking his hand up here. Hardly ideologically pure. As soon as Andrew failed the binary choice between Trudeau and Harper, I stopped taking him seriously and consider him a contrarian indicator. The get togethers with him, Warren and Brian must be fun(if they ever happen) based on what I have seen on X.

  4. Warren,

I think ClunkyTM meant that our relationship is over for as long as Trump is in office. But agreed that the Carney Liberals have no plan or to use a Trumpism, even a concept of a plan…but they’ll likely vote in the Liberals anyway…

  5. Warren,

No one is saying this but me: the Trump thing was the big break in the Conservative dam, but it was the second break. However, more important than that was the FIRST break in the dam, the one that sent the NDP and Jagmeet to electoral hell: NDP women watched those wretched Red CPC ads and then decided as a bloc to forego supporting the NDP to stop Poilièvre. That is the hidden key factor for the electoral crossover in this election, and no one is talking about it, much less covering it. Liberals and Conservatives aren’t moving, but New Democrats are moving away from their party in droves.

  6. Martin Dixon says:

On Andrew-there are LOTS of Democrats that disagree with his view that Harris did everything right. Lots of them.

Mraz on Germany made me think of this from ATW:

“Let’s just put our cards on the table-this is a show
making fun of Germany and do they need to be picked on? I think throughout history the problem has been that civilization has sometimes relented in its picking on Germany. And if you let them go for more than five, 10 years,
they come up with a whole new, all embracing metaphysical and political philosophy, with which they then arm themselves in order to spread. Whether it’s the Holy Roman Empire or Prussia or Hitler. And now they seem to be rearranging and sort of revising their sense of self so that in the name of peace, they can now be warlike again.”

If Kory actually wanted to help the Conservatives, he would not have gone public with it. He is reading his own press releases. Ford won because he is a HOAG.

Post geriatric punk here. Music great this week-top to bottom. Pretty sure you played Sorry Mom’s Youngstown:

And Dead Bears’ I Wanna Be A Ghost

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH2dgWH3UlI

    Channelling the Goo Goo Dolls.

And not Dennis Commetti and Sleaford Mods but these two tracks were great too.

Drenge track not on The Spotify. Too bad.

And in other news, I am currently trolling at least one neighbour with a couple of Pierre’s catch phrases. Said neighbour said I was breaking the law for the crime of weighing in on who would be our prime minister. Betting said neighbour will miss the point tough:

    https://www.facebook.com/martinj.dixon.5/posts/2926682387506663

A few years ago I had a brand new skidoo and trailer stolen right out of my driveway when we were home. They hauled it away with a stolen truck. They dragged it over a couple blocks to try to get it out. Geniuses left a cell phone on my driveway. One guy was out on bail for about 27 charges and had almost killed someone in a high speed chase in town. But he took advantage of the catch and release program. They had so much on the guy, they dropped our case against him even though I testified. Larry Brock was the Crown attorney. They are finally going to announce a Liberal candidate today to run against him-no sign of a NDP one. Not good.

  7. Warren,

You can guess what immediately popped into my mind when I watched those red garbage ads. I will leave it to your imagination, and I’m not an NDP-inclined woman or man.

  8. John,

The political, military and security apparatus has always thrown its lot in with Putin. Once it becomes clear that Russia will provoke a larger European war, what will they collectively decide is in their best interest? Right now, their best interest has been served by aligning with Putin and enforcing his will. But will that change in a Russia that is at some point on the brink of war? Putin should not necessarily sleep soundly when pondering such a future scenario. He probably would be at considerable personal risk if he proceeded in such a manner.

  9. Warren,

The Conservatives are doing everything right, policy-wise, with substantive daily announcements. That part of their campaign is A+. But it won’t win us the election. Our only chance in the remaining weeks is to go on the attack full-bore against ClunkyTM. If the ads are done right, we can still win even if the Liberals are favoured right now. But if they are more Byrne and Poilièvre inspired over-the-top mean-spirited crap like the Red ads, then those new ads will serve only to seal our faith. There is a way to do negative attack ads without coming off as a group of assholes or worse. So far, Byrne and Pierre haven’t got a clue how to successfully prosecute this war against Carney and the Liberals.

  10. Warren,

In short, Ford should call Pierre and tell him that he can have Kory. Then we’ll still have a fighting chance.

  11. Pedant says:

I had hopes that Carney might actually be different but so far the Markham MP Paul Chiang, who incited his supporters to abduct a Conservative candidate and deliver him to Chinese authorities for his HK democracy views, has not been expelled from the party. Since the RCMP and CSIS have become tentacles of the Liberal Party I assume they won’t be investigating either.

  12. Curious V says:

It’s no surprise that when given the opportunity the electorate turned on Poilievre. He isn’t likeable – Coyne hits the nail the nail on the head.

    • Martin Dixon says:

Yes-we know you aren’t a fan. You have told us about 100 times and keep ignoring actual substantial questions about the guy you support.

  13. Pedant,

Carney is no different than the Trudeau Liberals. Notice absolutely no natural inclination to remove Chiang and replace him with someone else. For Carney, like Trudeau Liberals, it’s always do as we say but not necessarily as we do.

  14. Warren,

Hum. I like two of your most famous words: private prosecution. LOL.

  15. Warren,

Poilièvre won’t pivot. Why is that not a surprise? That deafening sound you hear are the Ontario PCs have a collective mind-blowing orgasm…they’re moving faster than the Martinites. Pierre prefers to play right into their hands. Once we lose, they will move heaven and earth to dump him as leader.
