Some murders are more equal than others

I was here, at a Toronto “pro-Palestine” protest today. There were a lot of chants about genocide and killing, but there was not one word – not one – said about Odai Nasser Saadi Al-Rubai, a Palestinian boy who was murdered by Hamas for protesting against them.

Not one.

  1. Warren,

Hamas is out for survival and continued entrenchment. Netanyahu has other ideas but I’ll believe the destruction of Hamas when I see it.

First – this comment is not directly related to your post, I realize.

Second – I know you are staunchly pro-Israel, so I am trying to be respectful.

I also was galvanized after October 6, and felt Hamas deserved to be hammered. However, in the ensuing time, I have come to realize that Israel (or at least Netanyahu and his inner circle) have their own motives for keeping the war going perpetually. I don’t need to repeat them here – they are well understood.

So my question is – when does repulsion over October 6 start causing blindless towards what (to me) seems an obvious disregard for Palestinian civilian lives and an underlying motivation by Netanyahu that has little to do with actually protecting Israelis?

The measure of political objectivity, in my view, is when we can avoid getting dug into our “side” and be willing to critique things our side does that are clearly wrong. In my opinion, Israel (via Netanyahu’s orders) has crossed that line.

I would not equate Hamas to Gaza.
