Don’t feel too badly about getting it wrong for those of you who did. Even Chrétien said the Carney Liberals would get a majority. Thankfully, not. I’m proud to be in his company in blowing the election prediction. But he was a lot closer than I was. Chrétien knows Canadians a lot better than the rest of us.
Carney did not get a majority because he came off as shifty, especially about his net worth. When again are we going to find out about that? Are we still experiencing radio silence? To ask the question is to answer it.
Imagine what would have been done to a Conservative with the same CV trying to get away with that shite.
This might give you a clue:
“David is the son of billionaire businessman Aldo Bensadoun, for whom the company is named. The family company is valued at around $1.7 billion—a fortune at least partly created through the exploited labour of underpaid sweatshop workers.”
“When Bill Clinton was inaugurated as president, actor Ron Silver, then a Democrat, was there. And when fighter jets flew over the Lincoln Memorial, he was reportedly at first upset at the military symbolism, but then reminded himself that since Democrat Clinton was being sworn in, “those are our planes now.”
I’m extremely skeptical that any of those sneaky/shifty/Brookfield attack ads had much effect. Just my opinion. I don’t think the average Canadian gives a flying fuck about Brookfield. They care about stuff like jobs, their paycheques, their rent, their mortgages, their personal and community safety etc.
The point is that if Pierre dared to shake the hand of someone that managed to actually make a success of themselves other than in the hallowed halls of places like Harvard and Oxford or by sitting at a desk designed by “Sir John Soane”, everyone would rush to the ramparts and say that was proof Pierre was going to let folks die in the street by cutting their health care. Not to mention that anyone who thinks you can buy influence for 1700.00 is a moron.
Kind of depends what the strategy is going forward: if they just want to run the show for four years, sure. But if they want to run it alone, then they have to sink their minority government using some sort of pretext. My money is on the second scenario.
I love it.
Warren,

I am sure the CBC will make it their mission to get to the bottom of it.

Shades of Ron Silver::

Rosie et al would have sure made sure they cared if Carney were a conservative.
Do you know how many average Canadians actually watch Rosie et al.? It ain’t a big number.
They’re all staff in Ottawa. Those programs are an internal intercom service on the Hill. They’re irrelevant to the outside world.
There are ways to consume the news other than by watching it and when I say “et al”, I mean the legacy media. So, a lot.

That wasn’t the CBC.

He was pretty funny on the 22 Minutes election special for anyone who has not seen it.

Carney has a majority….. they just have not climbed into bed with him yet.
