MINISTER RAITT

She's a good friend, and we're proud of her. And not at all surprised to see her big win.

Being a non-partisan, for a minute, I am happy to see more women in cabinet. They needed to do that. Good on Mr. Harper.

OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper bolstered his cabinet with veteran MPs and rookies alike today in a sweeping shuffle that will launch his new government.

Harper juggled more than a dozen portfolios and added more women to a cabinet that had just seven females among 31 members before the shuffle.

Three star women rookies vaulted into key posts: Lisa Raitt at natural resources, Leona Aglukkaq at health, and Gail Shea at fisheries.

SHUFFLE?

What shuffle? This is what the politicos I know are talking about this morning!

Hate to sound like a gushing teenager and all that, but - my God, Clinton is awesome. What a pro.

Expect to hear some of Clinton's lines coming from federal Grits in coming months. His criticisms apply up here, too.

SECRET REVEALED TO 300 CLOSE FRIENDS

I just did a political panel thing for the Ontario Real Estate Association with my pals Paul Rhodes (dirty rotten Tory) and Graham Murray (dirty rotten Dipper). I played the role of Dirty Rotten Grit.

Before the assembled masses, I was asked by one nice lady who could lead the Liberal Party of Canada to victory in the next election.

I gave my answer.

McKenna won't run for federal Liberal leadership (Liberals-McKenna)

OTTAWA - Former New Brunswick premier Frank McKenna is ruling out a bid for leadership of the federal Liberal party.

McKenna has released a statement saying that restoring the Liberals to power and a majority government would take a longer commitment than he's prepared to make.

McKenna, 60, has twice been touted in Liberal circles as the heir apparent to the party throne.

But Canada's former ambassador to the United States declined to run in the 2006 race that elected Stephane Dion.

Now, with Dion having announced he's stepping down following the Liberal electoral disaster in the Oct. 14 election, McKenna is once again taking a pass.

New Brunswick MP Dominic LeBlanc is the only declared candidate so far to replace Dion at a convention that will likely take place next May in Vancouver.

Feisty Frank Magazine folds - again (CRAFT-Frank-No-More)
Source: The Canadian Press
Oct 28, 2008 14:01

OTTAWA - It seems there's no more gold to be dug from that there dirt.

Frank Magazine, the satirical gossip magazine, is closing up shop - again - after 19 years of exposing the petty jealousies, ego trips and various venial sins of Canada's chattering classes.

A brief announcement went out to subscribers from publisher Michael Bate, stating both the bimonthly paper and online editions were being terminated, effective immediately.

Bate said the publication `could not achieve profitability.'

First published in 1989, Frank had its heyday during the early 1990s when circulation was around 16,000 and the magazine was passed from hand to hand in the national capital.

It folded in December 2004 before returning to life three years ago as efrank.ca.

LIBERAL LEADERSHIP

...I'm not showing my hand just yet. But, as I did with my friend Martin Cauchon last week, I draw to your attention to New Brunswick Liberal MP Dominic LeBlanc.

Dom and I worked together for Jean Chretien, and his Dad - the remarkable and wonderful Romeo LeBlanc - is actually our daughter's godfather.

Dom is a smart and ambitious guy, and he's very funny. He's going to help make the race a lively one.

BIMBO ERUPTION

When Betsey Wright famously coined the term "bimbo eruption," I know - because I've interviewed her - that she didn't have in mind this Floridian anchor-airhead, reciting talking points cobbled from the mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging blogosweird. But she could have.

Marxism! Socialism! Black helicopters! One World Government! Fluoridation and metrification! Good Lord almighty, why can't America see that Joe Biden is the spawn of Satan?

From a far-right web outfit that, uncharacteristically, has not - seemingly - altered the tape, thereby making sane people wish they could vote Obama-Biden two or three times.
