Green Day

I’m at their Toronto concert with my daughter. Based upon what I have observed tonight, I can now say that punk rock is dead.

You’re welcome.

    Isn’t it better that way?

(I mean, better for punk, not for society?)

(I will crank DOA tonight and mourn)

    Worst the Music is dead..

I watched South Pacific on PBS last night and I am sure that I had a much better musical experience than you did. It was an enchanted evening for me.
I have never heard Green Day. I probably assumed that they were another Irish fiddle band.

  4. Martin says:

Green Day have been posers since the day they were formed. Don’t worry Warren – there is a Killing Joke Concert coming to town – Unfortunately for your kids – it’s at the Phoenix so they will have to miss out on the real deal (i assume they are too young to go to that)

The music died Feb. 3. 1959

  6. Ted says:

Green Day is to punk rock what… Billy Idol is to punk rock.

You think it’s a coincidence they are led by a singer named Billie?

  7. WJM says:

I can’t think of a good reason to set foot within 1000 meters of Green Day, and no, not even to chaperone.

  8. Tim says:

Not dead yet. As we used to say back in the day before we went to Larry’s or the Bev or the Cameron House in 198…3,4,5

Not dead yet. That was Ed at trinity square who said that. And BFG destroy all automobiles and also oh yeah more beer.

In Calgary where I hang these days, the word is on the street. The Warehouse. 1st street still rocks. S &A. The Unseen played hard recently so they say. Not dead yet. By the way you posted a link a while back w/ Vampire Weekend & Fucked Up playing Blitz, they missed a really heavy break in that tune which SFH should vacuum up and make their own. Punk rock might be artisanal and a craft form but I doubt it.

She’s a fourteen year old listening to something that at least pretends to be punk. think of it as gateway music. before you know it, she’ll be dumping your ass to meet up with her friends at some friend’s band’s punk show at a shitty club you wouldn’t set foot in (yes, even you).

enjoy the Green Day experience while you can. And kudos to you for taking her. You’re a good father.

Thank you….I,ve had this conversation a few times with local youngsters while strapped to my SG. Frankly, Green Day sucks and I,ve never understood what they haveto do with punk….but I,m just a little old man now,I guess…M.

“… whose name we must not speak.”

Really? THE HOT NASTIES. Named after a porn movie, as the bass/vocals stated proudly several weeks ago. I found that movie, by the way. Please see below:

That was a great thing to do, Its such a critical age for the growth of music appreciation and going top concerts. Green Day is formulaic and pop-esque but also kinda catchy at times (like…god help me..Avril Lavigne). Production that just sucks all the life out of the music.

Have you seen the documentary “Joy Division?”. I found it completely enthralling, the movie “Control” about Joy Division is also great. She might be too young to watch that yet but if you watched it with her it would give her a better idea of the music scene in England (or at least Manchester) from the tail end of the true punk era (early eighties IMO).

If you haven’t seen it give it a go.

A killing Joke show…hmmm. I loved and still love “Love like Blood” but are they still putting on a good show?
