KINSELLA MAKES IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

TORONTO – Toronto lawyer and consultant Warren Kinsella today announced that he is making an important announcement about something.

Responding to weeks of speculation and an outpouring of concern, Kinsella said that he could not delay announcing his plans any further.

“Look, I can’t hide from the facts,” said Kinsella.  “At the start of August, I was up at the lake with the kids and wrestling them on Splash Island, a water trampoline kind of thing, and something went wrong.

“I was winning the King of Splash Island fight, that’s for sure, but I’m pretty sure I fractured my index finger.  I’ve tried to ignore it, and hope that it gets better, but the damn thing hurts like a bastard.”

Kinsella added that he will bow to weeks of pressure from loved ones, and get the damaged digit X-rayed this morning.  He will not be taking calls from the media, or speculate about what this means for his finger’s immediate future.

“I want to thank the media and the public for allowing my finger, and my other fingers, to focus on healing and closure at this time.  I only ask that we be granted privacy to be together at this challenging time.  Thank you.”

Shame it wasn’t the middle finger. I would have advised showing it to any and all Harperites you run into.

Maybe you can just fake it.

Oh, I think more people know you, WK, than Sarah T.

  3. Ted says:

That’s quite a lot of words just to say you are giving us the finger.

Rough housing never has a positive outcome.

Is SFH looking for a temporary musician?

So I guess this means Thomson isn’t endorsing Rossi after all? Now where did last Friday’s Toronto Star story come from I wonder?:)

Pas moi. I told the same newspaper that this “dropping off” stuff isn’t of much use after the cut-off date. One, her name is still on the ballot. Two, it’s not like her supporters are delegates, and will go where she (or anyone) tells them where to go.

It has some symbolic value, I guess, but that’s about it.

Clever post Warren. If it was broken I hope it’s set right.

Anyway, it doesn’t really matter all that much if Thomson is still on the ballot or if she was in single digits. She has been punching above her weight throughout the campaign when it comes to media coverage and so her going to Smitherman gives him momentum – especially after the Global poll.

There’s also a precedent for candidates “withdrawing” after the deadline. Susan Fish did it in 1991 in order to help June Rowlands block Layton and Rowlands won (while Fish still received 4.17% of the vote, probably 1/4 what she would have received had her campaign continued until the end.

The pressure will now grow on Pantalone to drop out. I would not be surprised if in a few weeks, if not sooner, local labour leaders and perhaps even the Toronto Labour Council go to Pantalone and ask him to withdraw and, if he refuses, come out and call for a “tactical” vote for Smitherman.

I’m wondering if we’ll see Thomson in the next provincial election?

      • A. says:

She seems to be a Red Tory so hard to say. If Hudak’s smart he’ll try to woo her to run in a riding such as St. Paul’s or Eglinton Lawrence but given that his idea of a star Toronto candidate was Sue-Ann Levy… if McGuinty is smarter he’ll woo her instead.

Problem though is that there really is no there there with Thomson. Sadly, the reason she was included in the roster of “major” candidates was that she had a good launch (helped by the fact that she is a publisher and so has media connections) and that she’s – amazingly – the only woman in the race but she really is a lightweight and had there been any serious female candidates no one would have given her the time of day. I suppose it’s something that the media feel the need to give some attention to women who run, perhaps one day they can extend the same sense of noblesse oblige to people of colour.

    Warren,

Thank God you are not in Ottawa. In your condition, I’m not so sure that the gravitational pull would be sufficient to suitably immoblise that digit should you suddenly find yourself within visual distance of the Langevin Block!!! (Sorry, I just couldn’t resist this one.)

  11. I’m not sure how this affects the likely outcome, but whomever leaked the story to the Star last week should be fired. I would bet it was meant to get “even” with Thomson leaking her private correspondence with John Tory.

    • Warren says:

Jason, why do you accept the leak allegation as true? Why would anyone, from any camp, want to irritate her?

People being pursued, however, sometimes like to let it be known that they are being pursued. Makes them feel important.

      Just sayin’.
