Wow

Received from a friend at CTV – and I am very sad to see my friend Tom go.  He will be missed:

Tom Clark and CTV to Part Ways

Toronto, ON (September 7, 2010) – Tom Clark, host of CTV News Channel’s POWER PLAY WITH TOM CLARK and former CTV News Washington Bureau Chief, has moved on to pursue other opportunities, it was announced today.

In his almost four decade long association with CTV, Tom Clark has become one of Canada’s most respected journalists. In that time, he served as CTV’s China Bureau Chief, CTV Washington Bureau Chief, host and senior correspondent of CTV’s W5, as well as reporting from seven war zones, natural disasters and political upheavals. Clark witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the student uprising in Tien An Men Square. He covered almost every federal election in Canada since 1974.

“CTV is extremely proud of its long association with Tom Clark, and wishes him well in his future endeavours,” said Robert Hurst, President CTV News.

CTV, Canada’s Olympic Network, is also Canada’s largest private broadcaster. Featuring a wide range of quality news, sports, information, and entertainment programming, CTV is Canada’s most-watched television network. CTV Inc. also owns radio stations across the country and owns or has interests in leading national specialty channels, featuring news, sports, factual, arts, entertainment, music, youth and fashion programming. Official broadcaster of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and London 2012 Games of the Olympiad, CTV Inc. is owned by CTVglobemedia Inc., Canada’s premier multi-media company, which also owns Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail. This is a shame but I am not a bit surprised. Tom Clark was the complete opposite of Mike Duffy!. Tom challenged the politicians, including the Conservatives, would tell them that they hadn’t answered his questions, he was far more even handed in his criticism. I stopped watching the CTV politics show because I always felt it was biased in favour of the Conservative line but went back to watching the programme when Tom Clark took over. I also think he was given a raw deal – he should be taking over from Lloyd Robertson. I hope I will be able to continue watching Tom on one of the other networks. Whatever he chooses to do, I wish him the very best and want him to know that he will be missed

Best of luck to him. He will be missed. Very solid pro.

  3. Hope Tom will find his luck he was and still is one of my favorites tv host.

I wondered about his future at CTV the moment Lisa Laflamme was announced as Lloyd’s replacement.

So two premier well-respected anchor-types out of work.

Too bad there isn’t some brand spanking new TV all news network out there looking for some heavyweights to lead off for them on their launch. Would go a long way to making them seem legit, competitive and unbiased, if those were issues.

Tom is a pro. He’s earned respect as a journalist. Although she hasn’t been around as long, so has Lisa.
But to put Lloyd in the same category is lunacy! This guy was a CBC staff announcer before he moved to CTV to replace Harvey. The closest thing he ever did to a news story was cover Grey Cup parades in the 60’s & 70’s. Even recently, after 30 years on the anchor desk, when he was sent to China to promote the Bejieng Olympics, his performance was an abysmal, amateur and incompetent embarassment. The week-long “series” of stories he filed were juvenile and sounded as though written by a failing high school student. Lloyd is nothing more than an over-rated bombastic meat-puppet with an ability to read someone else’s material and a pleasant voice.
I’m pleased Lisa got the job. But I’d have been happy with Tom also.

Oh, just my guess but “other opportunities” will translate to Kory TV.

Jane “Giggles” Taber as Host of Power Play?

What are the ratings on Power Play anyway, anybody know?

  8. Paul R. Martin says:

I liked him, but I did not see him as the replacement for Lloyd Robertson. I did meet him in a pre natal class in 1982 and felt that since he was aware that he was a public figure on TV, he was a bit guarded in making any off the cuff comments to the rest of us in the class. I wish him the best.

  9. Scott says:

I thought he’d be a good replacement for Lloyd.

  10. I want to wish Tom Clark well in his future endeavours. I also want to wish Lisa Laflamme well in her new role.

  11. Scott says:

Warren, have you ever thought of taking such a role? I mean, as an anchor person FT?

  12. Scott says:

Why not? You’d be great on a daily 2-3 hour show. Lord knows the 24 hr news networks need some interesting people to come on board F/T.

Who should I email, over and over 😉

  13. The Dude says:

Let him take over for Soloman on Power and Politics.

    • MCBellecourt says:

      Agreed!!!

Tom Clark would probably increase CBC’s audience ten-fold and it would be a must-see show for all Canadians, no matter who they vote for.
