Rob Ford in action.

There is no such law as a “verbal assault”!!!! Blocking the reporter from getting on the elevator can be viewed as a violation of the reporters freedom of movement guaranteed by the charter if he did it long enough (sadly it wasn’t over the limit of 2 minutes or whatever the time limit is.)

I want a mayor who is professional. If the mayor can’t take an insult (even if the insult is unwarranted) how do we expect him to handle situations in a proper manner?!?!

Thank God I moved out of Toronto. I’m not sure I can stomach the next election results.

  2. #562 says:

After looking at the video many times, you don’t hear the reporter call Mr. Ford “a Fat F**k” but you can quite clearly see his lips move but nothing being said. Immediately after he is accused of his indiscretion of swearing at Ford. Someone edited out the reporter calling Ford a FF. THAT is very interesting.

That being said I still agree with my previous post. Rob Ford was very unprofessional and for that matter so was the guy beside him who jumped in.

  3. Marie B. says:

    So What!

  4. Andrew says:

I think this whole thing smacks of fat-ism. Studies have proven over and over again that if you are fat, you are generally thought of as being lazy, stupid and unprofessional.

If someone like David Miller had gone off like that, everyone would be touting he had a right to defend himself, etc. etc.

If I had a dollar for every time someone called me fat, fat and lazy a fat f@@k, I would be a millionaire today. The world is cruel place for the husky and overweight.

    • scanner says:

Wee Bobby Ford IS a millionaire so I guess he found the formula you seek, Andrew, so for you, the world is indeed a cruel place.

  5. Abigail Thomas says:

Is it just me or does that guy with Ford look an awful lot like Tim Hudak?

  6. DJ says:

Astonishing! Just a question from BC: If Ford becomes mayor, what are the chances that he will have a city council that will support his agenda? Thanks

    • Warren says:

Exactly. That’s the thing many voters here don’t get: the office of mayor has no more real influence than your average councillor. He/she therefore has to rely on his/her ability to get along with said councillors to get things done.

Four years of Rob Ford, because of his approach to dealing with others (and George Smitherman, for the same reason), means FOUR YEARS OF GRIDLOCK.

That’s why I’m supporting Rocco Rossi. He has an amazing ability to work with others, and get things done.

      • DJ says:

Thanks. That’s what I was wondering. In constast, Gregor Robertson in Vancouver faces 7 councillors from his centre-left slate Vision Vancouver, 2 from the far-left COPE slate, and just 1 from the centre-right NPA. Robertson was just able to push through a separate bike lane with concrete barriers down Hornby St. in downtown Vancouver. Construction began the next morning after council passed the measure the night before!

  7. Warren says:

The journalist in question is a piece of work. No question.

But he isn’t running for mayor. The lunatic who goes off his rocker in the video clip is the one running for mayor.

Guys, take off the Conservative blinders, just this once. Is this really appropriate behaviour for a leader? Really?

    • MississaugaPeter says:

      Warren,

If this is as good as it gets, in your folks being able to find bad clips of Ford, the campaign is friggin’ over.

This clip may excite and solidify some voter’s negative opinions of Ford, it at the same time may excite and solidify some voter’s opinions of the negative media bias towards Ford.

At the end of the day, I believe this clip has not changed a single vote, and thus, is a waste of your energy and bandwidth. I sure hope your folks can find something better than this in the next two weeks, or Ford will be mayor.

      • Ted says:

That was appalling behaviour for anyone, let alone a mayor.

But the worst part is what set it off: clearly, Ford was lying about what Ootes said and did at in camera committee sessions. And Ootes is supposed to be on the right in council.

Ford will say anything. None of it means anything. I do believe he wants to cut spending. I don’t believe he has the first clue how to do so. And everything that comes out of his mouth is seriously untrustworthy.

More untrustworthy than the other leading candidates? Arguably yes based on his history.

    • paulsstuff says:

Gee Warren, would it have been more appropriate if he grabbed the guy by the throat?

      • Ted says:

If Barber had charged through a line of armed security officers making a beeline directly for Ford, yes.

        • Ted says:

Missing your point Freddie. Are you saying that didn’t happen to Chretien, despite the video footage showing it did? Still living in your own reality?

    • bugzy says:

Gord, You are jumping to conclusions yet again. Its no wonder the Cons get away with so much. Take of your blinders and use a little common sense for a change and while you do so, remind your cult National Citizens Coaltion Leader Harperof that.. Are you or the reporters here lip readers? Man you show nothing but a bad temper and one can attribute that behaviour from 4 year olds.

Same kind of behaviour from Ford. If Ford can’t handle stuff he dosen’t agree with candidly, he is not cut up to be in a polition of a leader.

    • The Other Jim says:

Gord – Did you watch the entire clip? Ford is laughing and grinning as he intimidates and chases down the guy. There’s a difference between losing your cool / blowing up at somebody and behaving like a school yard bully. Seriously, that’s not how grown ups act!

  8. Ted says:

It doesn’t start with the “fat f**k” comment. It starts with the journalist going after Ootes for something Ford had told them about the way he had voted. He denies it and then Ford denies he ever said anything. Caught out in a lie, Ford does the classic nasty turn the tables. So like Harper and Cheney and the like.

It’s Ford who should lose his councillor credentials for disclosing confidential voting and then lying about what he said.

Ford is, plain and simple, Auntie Rob. He stands for nothing and he is anti-everything.

  9. Michael Reintjes says:

verbal assault?..Huh?….What is that?….if thats illegal, then I,ve been assaulted hundreds of times, especially at the Rink…hmmm?

  10. bc says:

Warren, you realize he will be the next mayor of Toronto, right?

    It’s not even a discussion.

  11. MetaKaizen says:

This is an old video. I can’t remember exactly when it surfaced, but I recall it being around the time Ford moved to a van down by the river.

  12. James Curran says:

Or Sue Ann Levy from the Sun Gord. The Conservative shill whack job that calls herself a journalist.

    • The Other Jim says:

Sigh. Sue Ann Levy has repeatedly written that Rossi is the best candidate for the job. While she certainly prefers Ford to Smitherman, she’s made it pretty clear that she doesn’t believe that Ford would be an effective mayor.

But, hey, don’t let the facts get in the way of your assumptions!

  13. James Curran says:

Two Fords for the price of one. You get the brother as councillor as well in this election. Imagine the fun and the gridlock.

Today’s my birthday. Normally I wish for self absorbed personal things like good health, prosperity in the upcoming year – that sort of thing. Not today. No sir. Today I wished for anybody but Ford to become mayor of Toronto. Yes I dislike him that much.

  14. Sean says:

one thing I know for sure about “fat F&*KS” and hyper angry loud mouthed white guys in particular… They vote… Early and often.

  15. Leon says:

The alternative to Rob Ford is George Smitherman. I’ll be voting Rob Ford.

  16. Dawg says:

That’s it? That’s all you got?

  17. MCBellecourt says:

Ford is just plain obnoxious. Obnoxious does not make a leader. If the reporter did call him a fat @%^#, he was in the wrong, but Ford should have let it go.

How many times has Michael Ignatieff reacted in such a fashion to the myriad of insults he endures every day? I’ve seen him react once, and it was a calm and rational statement during an interview with Peter Mansbridge.

Should Ford get in as Mayor, does this mean he’s going to fly off the handle every time someone disagrees with him? Seems to me there is another politician that throws chairs around whenever there’s dissent behind closed doors…

…and nothing of any worth gets done..

  18. Paul R. Martin says:

As I live in Brampton, anything I say about Ford is superfluous; however, I just want to point out the Toronto Star article about a non registered charity run by Brampton’s mayor Susan Fennell. There is no accountability, no tax receipts. Both donners and recipients of the “charity” are anonomous.

  19. JDK says:

This clip is from Min Sook Lee’s ‘Hogtown: The Politics of Policing’, which won best Canadian feature at the 2005 HotDocs Festival. At the time, the press corps went bananas over the journalist’s phantom slur but nobody had any tape of it, even the film crew that was armed with a boom mic. The only two people who claimed to have heard Rob Ford being called a ‘fat f__k’ was Georgio Mammoliti and Rob Ford, two consistently reliable sources who have built their careers on avoiding irrational outbursts and clown shoes.
#562, the audio was not edited so, no, that’s not actually interesting.

  20. wannabeapiper says:

Ford seemed to be enjoying himself and should have ended it with ” bu dee… bu dee…bu dee…that’s all folks…” and then implode the video Porky Pig style. I didn’t say he was Porky Pig!

  21. Horton Jules says:

People who already like Rob Ford will like this clip. He’s the average Joe. That’s his appeal. The more people try to show how rough around the edges and unpolished Ford is, the more Ford wins support.
