Calling all tech help

Some lunatic named “Walter Water” at walterwater@yahoo.com has been spamming this web site, making threatening comments about my children and family.

His IP address is 65.95.132.205.  Hostname: bas3-london14-1096778957.dsl.bell.ca

It looks to me like he is in Woodstock, Ont., but I’m not sure.  My lawyer, and the police, need specifics.

Anyone who can help me track down his real name and address gets an autographed copy of The War Room, and my family’s gratitude.

Thanks, guys.

This isn’t the most helpful in the world, since my usual slate of tricks seem to get me nowhere (I’m a system/network administrator by day). Odds are pretty good, of course, that that isn’t his real name.

Your best bet is likely to get your lawyer to call Bell Canada at 416-310-7873, with the dates and times the messages were sent from that IP. Bell knows who is connecting to it; it’s paid for somehow, so they have a credit card billing name and address, too.

Best wishes. Hope you get him.

LOL. you will make some shmuck famous if you go after him. He’s probably shit scared now and won’t show his face on your forum again.

I’m certainly no lawyer, but uttering threats of death or bodily harm is an offence under S.264.1(1)(a) CCC. Also, S.7(3)(d)(i) PIPEDA allows their personal information to be disclosed on the initiative of the organization, in this case, the ISP, without their permission to the cops on the basis of such threats. I would be very surprised if Bell Sympatico kept this person as a subscriber if you provided them with the evidence of the threats as this is also certainly a breach of their service agreement. Cow is right, that is the best approach.

I wish I could help. 🙁 An autgraphed version would make an ideal addition to my growing library.

The Legal Dept at Bell will only speak with your attorney – or the police directly. Of course we could just shut that IP down (we have vayz to do zat), but Bell would not likey-likey… The po-po are your best bet. From my experience in the field, a call directly from the Police would net quicker results. Bell CSRs would refer lawyers to their Legal Team (an elongated email process), while they would direct police directly to their Security Dept (which should be 24/7). I’m a former ISP Manager with an unnamed IT service provider (major Canadian player).
