The XX

My daughter intensely dislikes this tune, but I still think it’s catchy.  What thinkest thou, armchair music critics?

I’m with your daughter on this one.

That whole album is frustrating. They have catchy hooks here and there, and poise and patience throughout, but I just can’t get any satisfaction out of it. Provided their potential attracts a skilled producer, and they listen, their next album could be epic.

i like it but wouldn”t use the word catchy.

It has a lock on the Groundhog Day video award. The more I watched I could only think of Mike Meyers and Sprocket…

Maybe a catchy tune, but the video’s like Groundhog Day…

I like her voice, but the tune really doesn’t pass the “knock my socks off, sign them immediately test”…Too frat boy, faculty club and probably forgettable after about 5-6 listens…..still like her voice tough.

The whole album is killer. No filler. I believe it was in Pitchfork’s top 10 for 2009. Just a deadly, deadly offering.

I think it’s brilliant and the whole album has been in my high rotation for a year now. While they’re not overly animated, they also play a great live show with a genuine feeling of intimacy. These kids are only around 20 years old, so the fact that they were able to produce something that sounds so mature and sophisticated at that age also bodes well for their future recordings. (I hope they manage to avoid the sophomore slump.)

    Fail.

DJ’s will play it in the clubs though, because the pause is snappy.

It’s not Slim Whitman, but it’s not bad.

I’ll have to give the rest of the album a listen, but this one strikes me as faux new age – a channel changer.

It could grow on me. Looks like slick hipster stuff. Very much a product of the 00s.

Oh please, being surprised at how mature and sophisticated 20 year olds can be? I’m astonished at how childish older folks can be. Some people never did grow out of high school.
