When I post this one, you know I mean it (updated)

About this.

Five points.

One, everyone knows CATSA suck.

Two, CATSA in Ottawa particularly suck. They’re jerks.

Three, I have read that story from top to bottom three times. I didn’t see the news.

Four, the story has the faintest odour of one newspaper chain going after people at another newspaper chain. I’ve experienced it personally, recently. And with the same paper.

Five, yes, this is Warren speaking.

UPDATE: Ninety minutes after this post went up, a Citizen writer sent me an email saying how what what I’d written was, quote unquote, “deeply resented.”  He then – out of the blue – went on to tell me a great deal about the pleadings in my divorce action, and about things that have happened, therein, which have never been made public.  He then concludes his missive by noting that – so far – his newspaper hasn’t published anything about my personal life.  He could have added the word “yet,” but he didn’t need to.  The message was clear.

Boy oh boy: I put up a tiny post questioning the media/bureaucratic treatment of a man who has been no fan of mine (to say the least), and the media organization in question sends me a note containing a not-so-subtle threat.  Wow.

I’m still processing all of this, but one thing’s for sure: I’m not someone who takes to intimidation very well.  You’d think some folks would know that by now, but apparently they don’t.

Stay tuned.

UPDATED: And the rave reviews about the Shitizen’s reportage keep pouring in, here and here.

well, the story did confirm one thing we all suspected: Ezra’s balmy, and doesn’t realize it.

  2. Rick T. says:

No news here. Somebody at the Ottawa Citzen is trying stirring the pot.

  3. Jan says:

Interesting that Ezra wrote an article criticizing the American government’s airport security. He obviously doesn’t like the Canadian government’s either, but he didn’t mention it.

  4. gretschfan says:

Yeesh! One has to have very special suckage powers to be able to stir sympathy for the likes of Levant. So uhh way to go CATSA.

  5. robert says:

Levant should be patted down with a mallet…or droned by Obama…when he’s visiting Flamagan.

    • Nasty Bob says:

Gee Robert – bet your the type that blah blah blahs about ” eliminationist” rhetoric from the right all the time too, huh?

RE: Update — Wow indeed. Sounds like a threat to me. Perhaps his (?) supervisor would agree. Not what I would regard as professional conduct — but it’s your call.

Regarding your post, notwithstanding the excessive intrusiveness of airport security theatre, wouldn’t Levant be the kind of guy who would argue we have a nanny-state and everyone should grow up, suck it up, etc., etc., etc.? Or are there limits to what it means to suck it up and be an adult? A bit inconsistent on his part, unless he’s taking a Darwinian survival of the fittest type of position when comes to boarding safe flights?

… Grabbin’ the popcorn… This should be good!

  8. Sorry to hear about threats about your personal life.

the story talked about some airport incident with Helena. I was under the impression Mansbridge after viewing the tape cleared up the misunderstanding.

Did someone forget to update the anti-cpc talking points in the article?

    • Philip says:

No anti-cpc talking points here Observant/Canadiansense. The whole thing isn’t worthy of a single line in any newspaper.

    • Namesake says:

And I was under the impression that Ms. Guergis had been expelled from the CPC, presumably for bringing it to disrepute through that and other incidents.

Did someone forget to update your tired talking points that you’re not supposed to defend her as one of your own, anymore?

  9. Brian says:

I hate Levant. Read the story. Found about as much news as I’d expect from your divorce proceedings. E.g. None.

  10. Mike says:

    Passion is no ordinary word.

  11. Mike says:

Whenever I read a disagreeable comment, I’m inclined to reach out and knuckle-dust the author. Are you disagreeable? KAPOW! You deserved it, after all.

As someone who deals with Ottawa CATSA on a weekly basis, I don’t think it sucks that much (and certainly less-so than Pearson CATSA). The CATSA staff that work the Ottawa airport are efficient, polite, and seem to work hard to get you through as fast as possible.

I get the left arrow (which you’ll understand if you fly often through Ottawa) maybe one visit in four, ask for a pat-down before the guy has finished explaining me my options, and get on with my day. Each time the pat-down is orderly, predictable, respectful, and nothing like the “don’t touch my junk, bro” pat-downs that outraged the US last fall.

Bashing CATSA may be easy, but they’re just doing the job that their “security theatre”-loving bosses give them. Given the constraints of the laws and regulations they’re operating under, I’ve got no problems with the way they go about their work -especially in the Ottawa airport.
