Bye-bye, Gord

Mr. Tulk was warned, and he’s now banned from this site.

Bye-bye, Gord. Find a new sandbox. I suspect you won’t be missed by others.

  1. Pat Heron says:

Good for you Warren. I was about to swear off Musisngs because it was becoming the Kinsella-Tulk site. He really overdid it yesterday. But over time he seemed intent on taking the commentary off track completely which may have been his objective.

  2. John says:

Thanks Warren… for health reasons, I was avoiding the comments here when I saw that name. Not good for my BP.

  3. William says:

You know what I liked about Gord?

Yeah, I can’t think of anything either.

  4. Mulletaur says:

That’s too bad. Where will I go for my Conservative talking points now ? Also, I know that Lent is over, but isn’t there a suitable penance you could impose so he could worm his way back ? You know, crawling on his knees towards a statue of Laurier while reciting from the first Red Book ? We could raise some serious money with a video of that …

    • Philip says:

I’ll drop $300 on that. I think we could pay-for-view that shit.

      • Windsurfer says:

If Gord will agree to walk the full length of 2nd St. east and west in Calgary, wearing a red Liberal tee-shirt, while agreeing to have his photo taken by the Calgary Herald…………. we should let him back.

        Agree?

        It WOULD be pretty humiliating.

      • Bill says:

$300, holyshit. Your a high roller. You must a few buck squirreled away:)

  5. Derek Pearce says:

Wow, what’d I miss? I know he was ridiculously dissing the Charter as “flawed” but he must’ve crossed some line?

  6. Chris says:

It’s too bad that he was unable to moderate himself, there is a certain value in having these conversations with folks from across the political spectrum.

Warren, I give you credit for allowing him to spew his nonsense for as long as you did.

  7. frmr disgruntled Con now Happy Lib says:

    Oh happy day!

  8. que sera sera says:

Gord’s “bozo insurance” policy must have expired.

  9. Mike Foulds says:

    What did I miss?
    Your sandbox, your rules.
But I can’t find anything more egregious in the last few days than what he has posted in the past.

  10. smelter rat says:

I dunno, I’ll sort of miss the solid thrashing he used to give me, regardless of the topic 😉

  11. Dan says:

I can’t say I ever thought anything he said was particularly intelligent or well-thought out, because he had trouble functioning when the issue didn’t fall neatly into any category (“tax cuts”, “deregulate”, “islamofascism”).

I hope there’s still room for Conservative voices here. And spooky dangerous socialists like myself.

What did he finally do that crossed the line? Racist? Sexist? Homophobic? All of the above?

  12. Bill says:

That’s to bad. I thought he brought the best out of many of the people here. I hope this site is as entertaining without Gord.

Warren, what did Gord say that required you to boot him?

    • Warren says:

Now, why would I publish what he wasn’t allowed to? That make any sense to you?

      • Bill says:

Warren, I wasn’t looking for the exact details. Just interesting in any details you can give. It does make sense to me that you can’t print word for word. I think a lot of your regulars might have interest aswell.

  13. wallyj says:

Way to go,this echo chamber does not need to hear dissenting opinions.

    • Warren says:

I don’t republish libel. There are many other places he can go. You, too.

    • The Other Jim says:

I call BS. I have provided many dissenting opinions in the comment section of this blog over the past few years. The responses, both from our host and other contributors, are generally engaging and respectful*. Most partisan blogs are echo chambers. Musings, in my opinion, is not.

*Well, except for Scott, of course, but every gathering has its token douche.

  14. Cam says:

I don’t know what happened, but it is your site.

I enjoyed some of Gord’s views and comments, and even agreed with a few. It seems to me that continued dialogue with a little open-mindedness would be beneficial for all.

    • Warren says:

I don’t get paid for this. I’m not going to tolerate children who can’t behave.

      • wallyj says:

Of course,it’s your site and you can do what you want.

It matters that you do it for free, good for you. But do keep in mind that your behaviour here can affect, and likely does affect the things that you do for pay.
Children react with a knee-jerk, adults should not.

        • Chris says:

Who’s to say it was a knee-jerk? You have no idea what sort of comments gord has posted that have not been published.

        • Jason King says:

Actually Gord had been warned several times recently about libelous comments regarding a specific person. His response was quite petulant as if he felt it was his right to say what he wants. In recent weeks he’s been more overboard than usual refusing to back up his claims with any proof.

          • Ted B says:

There are always idiots making comments like Gord and will continue to be, but that last bit – refusing to back up his claims with any proof – is what gets under my skin the most.

Couple that with potential libel, and this here free speechers is OK with tossing him.

    • You can certainly find him on other forums.

  15. Philippe says:

I enjoyed his dissent and what he brought to these debates. We Liberals aren’t like them in that we welcome debate (usually because the facts are on our side). But in the end it’s Warren’s site and his rules.

  16. RJ says:

Good. I actually quit the CPC and joined the Liberals because of Gord. I met Gord at numerous Conservative events several years ago. He would concoct the most crazy resolutions you could conceive. I thought to myself, this new Conservative party is nuts and it was because of nuts like him. And he thinks he’s the brain trust of the party with great inside political connections at the highest level. Nothing could be further from the truth. Even other party members thought him to be crazy. Consider a Canada if Gord got his way! Yikes! Thank the lord no one even in the CPC takes him seriously (except for Gord himself). I turned around from the Conservatives and ran. If you haven’t met Gord in person, he’s the spitting image of David Koresh, complete with those cheap, wire glasses.

    • Chris says:

I’m trying to understand how he was able to earn a living when he seemed to comment on this site 24/7..

      • Craig says:

My guess? His low paid staff probably does most of the work, which gives him a lot of free time to post on Warren’s site (& other sites).

  17. dave says:

    Well, – unfortunate!
I sometimes thought that we were getting a picture of the way that corporatism wanted us to see things.
I also sometimes thought that GT was ‘cooperative’ of some kind, a group effort. GT’s responses often reminded me of organized group efforts we see from time to time on comment/musings sections of salons like this.
GT’s comments did spur a lot of people on here to articulate clear points in response.

  18. Steve T says:

WK, you have been amazingly open to dissenting opinions over the years (including mine), so I have faith that Tulk must have crossed a line. Sorry it was necessary to boot him, as he did often provide intelligent counterpoints, but you don’t want to get sucked into a libel issue. If this move means you’ll be here longer, then I’m all for it.

I do note, however, that there are also various pro-Liberal (or, more accurately, anti-Conservative) posts that regularly cross the line into ad-hominem attacks and what seem to be libelous comments (to my not-legally-trained eye). I’m hoping this move with Tulk signals a general crackdown on this type of behaviour.

Thanks as always for having a lively and interesting forum!

  19. Craig says:

Looks like Gord is playing the “victim” card on SDA. Here are the links to his comments:

    http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/019884.html#c712980

I actually enjoyed reading Gord’s posts on this site (just to hear his rebuttals and the Conservative point of view). Gord is a typical “salesman” – he’s a great BS’r and goes on & on & on…(no offense to the salespeople out there who are honest and straightforwrd).

  20. Jon Adams says:

Does anyone else picture Gord writing furious missives to Dave Rutherford, Charles Adler, Roy Greene, et al to the tune of “Stan” by Eminem?

Just me? Guess I need to get out more. I gonna put my iPad on the steering wheel and drive around central Alberta with no seatbelt (to protest tyranny) whilst refreshing this webpage every five minutes. I can be equally impressive.

    • Jason King says:

Don’t forget the burrito and a statement about David Suzuki, Alan Eagleson and Steve Fonyo. You can be a star!

  21. Craig says:

In this post, he provides the reason why he was banned from Warren’s site:

    http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/019884.html#c712948

I can’t believe he quoted “Wiki” to back up one of his arguments. Well, maybe I can (LOL!).

  22. Nurie Jahangeer says:

Nemesis666, are you an ANGRY WHITE MALE CONSERVATIVE?

Here is something that always cheers me up when I encounter Angry White Male Conservatives who hate bilingualism,
    multiculturalism and immigration.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2000/sep/03/race.world

PS: Perhaps Nemesis666 IS Mr Tulk using a different name?. Warren, watch out for Mr Tulk posting here again in a
week weeks using a different name. The crabby, angry, bitter, retired old White fart can’t seem to exist without posting
his right-wing poison on this web site several times a day!. I’ve noticed that younger Conservatives tend to bitch about
taxes and the size of government mostly, while the old onse like Mr Tulk still seem to be fighting Trudeau and are basically
angry that the WASP-ish Canada of their childhoods is now gone forever. As Canada and the USA rapidly head towards
non-White majority status by the years 2050 and 2040 respectively, White Males like Mr Tulk et al are going to get louder
and louder and more and more desperate.

    • The Other Jim says:

Wait, let me get this straight. It “cheers you up” that there are / will be fewer people of a specific race in the world?

And Tulk is the racist who needs to be hauled in front of the HRC?

Am I the only one starting to think that Old Gord is posting as “Nurie Jahangeer” just to have a laugh at our expense?

  23. Tiger says:

No-one has the unfettered right to post on someone else’s private site — we’re all here by permission of one sort or another.

I’ve banned people on my own site simply because I didn’t like them. (Not for differing views — most of my commenters disagree with me at one point or another, and that’s fine. But for being jerks.) No other explanation’s necessary. If Kinsella doesn’t like a person’s posts, s/he goes.

That said, re the stuff said above by others — as a delegate at the last CPC convention, I generally liked what Gord had to say at the plenary meetings. Soft-spoken reasonable sort as far as I could tell. Committed to democracy within the party.

  24. Nurie Jahangeer says:

If Mr Tulk has at any point made any overtly defamatory comments on this web site against visible minorities, aboriginals,
people with disabilities and/or the LGBT community; then they should be promply sent to the Alberta Human Rights Commission. I personally believe that a few of his comments on the Trayvon Martin case concerning African-Americans would be worthy of being reported.

    • Brine says:

Ah, nothing like ad hominem attacks. Instead of trying to refute Gord’s points, you want to go crying to the HRC? The right not to be offended is a fake right. If the HRC would entertain such tripe it’s all the more reason to dismantle these kangaroo courts.

BTW, you obviously have time to spend googling everything you can about Gord… Maybe someone should do the same to you.

      • Jason King says:

Wow brine you’ve built your own soapbox of nonsense there. Gord hasn’t made a point here. That point you missed. Noone wants to debate your sda hive mind talking points. And you’re definitely aiming for the low hanging fruit with your responses. What’s next from you? Internet tough guy maybe?

    • Jason King says:

Nurie, you’ve posted Gord’s number & mentioned his race many times in this thread. Its isn’t doing anything for your argument and accusing an individual of racism while commenting on their background is also well…. racist

  25. CQ says:

Mr.? Hmmpf, you’ve been replying to me as Dickweed etc., and that’s likely only when you’re in a good mood.

  26. Mark says:

Sadly, I think this site is about to become much less interesting.

  27. Greg from Calgary says:

I’ve disagreed with Warren over the years and not been banned. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing, that makes for a healthy debate which is why I respect Warren openess with this site. But GT could take things too far.
