Jesus and Mary Chain

…they’re playing the Phoenix in August. Want to see them, a lot. But you know what, Ticketmaster? I WON’T PAY MORE THAN SIXTY BUCKS A TICKET AND IT IS A DISGRACE THAT YOU GUYS ARE CHARGING THAT MUCH.

There. That feels better. Put it on a loop, add tons of distortion and echo, and it’ll be as good as being there.

Mr. Burns: “And to think, Smithers: you laughed when I bought TicketMaster. You said, ‘Nobody’s going to pay a 100% service charge’.”
Smithers: “Well, it’s a policy that ensures a healthy mix of the rich and the ignorant, sir.”

Don’t get me going on ticketmaster. I have tried to get tickets to a couple of concerts recently. The online “service” opened at 10 am both times. Could not get through and then I hear that these concerts are sold out in minutes….however, I go on another machine at the same time (exactly 10 am) and am able to get tickets on a “ticket selling agency” website immediately at 10 am if I feel like paying a 70% premium.

And even when you do get though on lesser concerts the ticketmaster fee can be as high as 25% of the ticket price.

Its touch when consumers don’t have a choice. The artists need to find a better way……..

Makes me realize what a bargain the Doobies(Bros) were for $8.00 back in the day……value for dollar in those days, I tells ya……jeez do I ever sound like my old man……..

I paid $7.50 to see Led Zeppelin in ’74, and me and my buds actually got some pretty decent seats. We did get more bang for the buck in the day, methinks…and I don’t mind sounding like the parental units once in awhile, especially when they were actually right! 🙂

if its any consolation, I saw this band in vancouver back in the 90’s …they are a tad ridiculous. they came on stage, struggled to tune their equipment, were surly, someone said something like “get on with it”…and they had a temper tantrum and left…serously…they walked off the stage and never returned. I wouldnt pay 5$ to see this band:P They were silly! and this is from someone who paid money to see PIL:) ( they were good, and john was in a pleasant mood so he didnt stomp off stage:))

Actually, I saw them at Lollapalooza 2. Middle of the afternoon, broad daylight, Molson Park. I was already a fan but figured this was not the place for them. However, they rocked nicely. It all worked in a big venue. I remember all their gear had JESUS stenciled on it.

That’s double what they’re charging for their June gig at the House of Blues. The previous post recounts a story simikar to what I’ve heard before. I’ll pass and will stick with my worn copy of psychocandy.

One day they’ll be paying a hundred bucks to see Shit from Hell…

I saw Pink Floyd in ’73 (dark side of the moon tour) I don’t remember what we paid but we were up in the greens and at some point the whole stadium turned into a spaceship and went for a tour of the universe.

I saw the Jesus and Mary Chain when they played at RPM, way back. Only recently did I find out that one of my cousins played drums for them in one of their later lineups… A heck, if we can’t afford to hear them play live.. here is one of their first vids… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noeTCf8PLuc
