Olympian insult

For the life of me, I cannot understand why the hedonistic Olympics brass refuse to permit a moment of silence for the Israeli athletes murdered at their Olympics in 1972.  Among other things, it is a total disgrace.

The current brass follows in the footsteps of Brundage and Samaranch. Fascism and the modern IOC have been intertwined for decades. Readers of the UK mag Private Eye have for 20 years been reading about the unsavory IOC, but of course there is too much money and too much corporate involvement at stake for the regular media to dare criticize.

My understanding is that they will have one, just not during the opening ceremonies.

Some of my favourite sports moments have been watching the Olympics. It can be a remarkably uplifting experience to watch. It’s amazing that it’s been run by so many morally bankrupt people over the years.

I completely agree. But then again, the Olympics aren’t about the athletes and coaches, so no real surprise.

    Warren,

One wonders about the significance of holding meetings to discuss what other OIC members have been up to. Seems to happen not infrequently. Pressing priorities have a way of doing that.

I always look forward to the godam Olympics to be over.
    Let the games be gone!

I guess it would set a precedent, like taking a minute for students in Mexico City in 1968.

    • smelter rat says:

The students killed in Mexico in 1968 had nothing to do with the Olympics. That massacre happened nearly 2 weeks before the games.

      • dave says:

I connect the murders with the O’s because I figure the protests were contributed to by the draining of other parts of the community to pay for the games…and, that the murders took place as a crack down to be sure the O’s were not disturbed.

Well now, it looks like one of Harper’s PMO flunkies replaced a young photographer which the C.O.C had originally hired to cover the Olympics.

The villain of the piece? None other than the former Harper bootlick Dimitri Soudas! Way to stay classy.
