Hey, maybe he is looking at the Mayors chair in Toronto again? His campaign never got off the ground last time, he was gifted TC by Smitherman instead, but unless Olivia beats him to the punch as the standard bearer for ‘progressives’ he would make a good Mayoral candidate. Not so sure about Premier, as much as I hate to say it, there would be some problems for him amongst social conservatives (and bigots) in Ontarios backwaters. Toronto is different as the bigots will all vote Ford no matter what happens, so no loss there. I like Glen, so whatever he decides I shall watch with interest.

Well, he’ll sweep the Church-Wellesley Village vote in Toronto….but Ford will still win the Joe Blue Collar vote.

Murray lost a federal Winnipeg riding in 2004 – it had been Liberal-held for many, many years. ‘Nuff said.

Paul Martin was party leader and the Liberals lost 33 seats. ‘Nuff said.

      • North of the 407 says:

Glen Murray lost that riding because outside of the urban core Manitobans didn’t like him. The Ontario Libs need a leader who’s popular both in the cities and outside of them. Murray isn’t that person.

        • Winnipeger204 says:

He lost by 734 votes in 2004 – less than 2% of the vote.

        • Reality.Bites says:

Just because he wasn’t popular with rural Manitobans (by a small amount in one riding) , doesn’t mean the same is necessarily true of Ontario.

Not that I’m endorsing him necessarily. He’s not exactly well-known in Ontario and has been an MPP for less than three years.

If nothing else, Murray as Liberal leader would keep Hudek in a constant state of damage control due to candidates who can’t keep their bigoted mouths shut.

    • Kelly says:

That is a conservative riding. In the Past they voted for John Harvard not the Liberal party. When Harvard resigned to become Lieutentant Governor of Manitoba, voters voted in large numbers for Steven Fletcher and the cons have held it easily ever since. Part of the riding is rural and abutts the riding of Candace “I killed the gun registry” Hoeppner, the riding previously held by Brian Pallister who recently won the leadership of the Manitoba PC party by acclamation and who has a very good shot at being the next premier (shudder).

      • Geo says:

Further more, when Harvard won it it was 88, the reform party had started to emerge in MB and some of the strongest supporters lived in that area. They split off vote.

Glen’s run at MP was at a time that Harvard might have had trouble holding the seat. The right was united, and Charleswood, where he did very well in the Mayoral race, when he was “progressive” but not party affiliated, is a very conservative area of town. Party lines came back into being and worked against him.

Glen is an amazing politician. I would never rule him out.
