Glen McGregor, ace reporter

Or, um, not.

Robo-calls? Robo-nothing. Consider the source, as they say.

    But, but, but……

He repeatedly claimed it the was biggest scandal in the history of Canadian politics! Well, I guess that’s what you get from a guy who used to work for Frank Magazine.

Ace reporter. I can think of another three letter word beginning with A.

“Well, I guess that’s what you get from a guy who used to work for Frank Magazine.”

Well, look what we got from the former Imperial Oil mail room clerk now PM of Canada:

      1. The only PM in the history of Westminster Parliament whose government was found in contempt of Parliament.
      2. The only PM in the history of Canada whose federal political party pled guilty to election fraud.

I suspect when it comes to Harper and his tax paid chorus of turd polishers, “scandal” is a meaningless term.

      • Matt says:

Yeah……..A contempt of parliament vote based largely on yet another media created “scandal” regarding unfounded allegations of Afghan detainee abuse.

And what happened after the opposition voted the bullshit “contempt of parliament” publicity stunt?

        The Conservatives won a majority.

and yet there is evidence of wrongdoing, just no proof of who did it, nor do they have all the details. Why, because folks can shrug off elections canada, they have no real power. And with the bill c23 they will be completely useless.
I mean Glen McGregor might be a shady reporter, but that in no way takes away from how extremely corrupt the cons are.

  3. Lance says:

Only in Canada does a journalist get an award for a story that doesn’t ever go anywhere.

  4. que sera sera says:

Not only is there evidence of wrongdoing, there is evidence that the Conservatives stonewalled the investigation by refusing to cooperate with Elections Canada.

That is enough for most voting (and thinking) Canadians who value democracy over ideology.

How bereft of legitimacy is your politics that you have to lie, cheat and defraud Canada and Canadians to get [re]elected?
How bereft of legitimacy is your politics that you have to gut Elections Canada legislatively and bureaucratically to protect your political party’s history and future?

Seems reasonable questions to ask since the Conservatives apparently have a proven track record of:
    1. pleading guilty to election fraud
    2. failing to cooperate with Elections Canada
    3. legislating to further neuter Elections Canada
    4. anonymous support by “unknown” robo-callers misdirecting non-Conservative voters

Who amongst us will recognize Canada when Harper is through with her?

    • Matt says:

Pleading guilty to and being fined $52,000 for breaking election FINANCING laws does not equal “election fraud” no matter how many times you repeat the lie.

As for #4, the report today clearly states there is no proof of the widespread voter misdirection and election fraud alleged by the media.

      • que sera sera says:

        @ Matt:

        fraud (frôd)
        n. A deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain.
        n. A piece of trickery; a trick.
        n. One that defrauds; a cheat.

Skunks apparently never smell their own smell, either, regardless how widespread the spray.

    • PeggyW says:

The new norm in Canada seems to be as long as there is not enough evidence to actually bring criminal charges, it’s all good. That’s not much of a standard, because it doesn’t mean something wrong wasn’t done, yet it’s enough for Conservatives to wave their banners and cheer. Sad. And I don’t have too much faith in the RCMP either.

    • Kev says:

How could they find Dmitri Soudas’ CIMS logs so quickly, but not Pierre Poutine’s?

  5. Adam says:

The amount of ink Maher and McGregor got for these stories (every little “update” was a front-pager in the Ottawa Citizen) was truly astounding. And, they won awards to boot.

Even more ridiculous were those who tried to make these two Ottawa-based chuckleheads a Canadian version of Woodward and Berstein. HA!

  6. doris says:

Do you really think in this day and age of Harperlaw and control that any meaningful investigations would come from EC. After all the tory lawyers sat in on the interviews with witnesses and now wonder of wonders the commish says that nobody would cooperate and therefore he cannot find any evidence. Wait for the future where harperlaw has now disallowed the commish from ever finding evidence and you wonder why the average thinker has stopped thinking.

What a fucking joke this whole affair has become. Harper stole the last election and now just like Stalin wants to steal the next – of course he will the rules have been rigged in his favour.

And guess what folks while the dips and libs can’t get their act together and cooperate to get rid of the bastard he will do it again.

    • Elisabeth Lindsay says:

Doris…..”of course he will (win the election), the rules have been rigged”

      Are you giving up already?

      • doris says:

Nope but the rules have changed, now the fundraising limits have changed for those on the lists or have been contacted before. Duh why do we have CIMS folks to data mine the e-petitions and emails to MPs, chuck ’em all in the CIMS and now they can be contacted and it’s not an election expense. The Cons now have have an unlimited Obama style new-media campaign and it’s not subject to the financial restrictions – a fantastic win.

We have not given up but recognise the mountain just go higher because of the slimey rule changes. next up will be the Repub style gerrymandering and the allowance of PAC style third party unlimited campaign finance rules.

He who has the gold wins!!

  7. Elisabeth Lindsay says:

    Also – one man`s bastard another man`s hero. 🙂

  8. Cindi Smythe says:

Those two ‘reporters’ owe Conservatives an apology. This was never anything but a media driven faux scandal, no corruption, no concerted effort and 96% of complaints came from LeadNow complaining about news reports. You know, the org. that had to pay a fine for an unsuccessful electoral fraud case. No doubt they et al will keep trying for a coup because they just can’t wait for a democratic election. Methinks the voters are not fooled by the media and opposition tactics.
