Is the OPP corrupt?

Well, after literally years, they still haven’t charged Ornge’s Chris Mazza, a long-time PC enthusiast. But former McGuinty deputy chief Laura Miller, who caught the OPP in perjury, and didn’t do a damn thing that was even remotely criminal? The OPP set land speed records, on that one.

And, during the last election, the selfsame OPP ran attack ads against he Ontario Liberals. Not against their main opponent.

Now, today, this. The OPP “association” actually  sponsoring the Ontario PC conference.

Never saw them do that for Ontario Liberals. Funny, that.

Yawn. Wake me up when the OPP actually DO something.

The cops shouldn’t be associated with any political party.

I put nothing beyond that outfit. I lost all respect for the force many years ago when an OPP sniper murdered Dudley George. The subsequent lies and cover up sealed the deal for me. They were working for the Ontario PCs back then too.

The OPP union ran ads against Hudak and the Ontario PC’s in the 2014 election.

The union representing Ontario Provincial Police has come out against Tim Hudak and the Progressive Conservatives.

In two television commercials released Monday, the Ontario Provincial Police Association (OPPA) attack Hudak’s plan to target public sector pay and benefits if he is elected premier. The ads mark the first time in the OPPA’s 60-year history that it has launched a political advocacy campaign during an election campaign.”

Boo hoo. How about a comment about Unifor, which holds a heck of a lot more election sway than a rural cop union.

Perhaps it is time to shutdown the OPP and contract out provincial policing to the RCMP like every province other than Quebec does. Yes I know the RCMP has its problems too.

Am I the only one who finds it really really wrong that any party has corporate sponsors for any conventions.

  8. Mac says:

Not a PC supporter nor an Ontarian myself, so my view should be taken as an outsider. But if I’m not mistaken, its the OPP Association that is sponsoring the convention and not the actual police institution itself. It would be injudicious if the OPP force was officially sponsoring the event itself, but given that this is the association (union) representing its members I don’t know if this is really an abnormal practice.

In some municipalities, for example, unions representing firefighters or policemen actively engage in political lobbying like this. I personally find it objectionable that these associations do so by means of a technicality seeing as how it perverts the impartiality of emergency service providers, but it is something that does happen.
