Trump TV times: terrific

I was on TV three times yesterday, which was a bit weird. The first time was over at CTV News, to talk about the top Trudeau ministers heading to Washington to, in effect, walk softly and carry a bigly stick. The government was finally heeding Canadiansand those of us – who wanted to see them get tougher with the Unpresident.

After that, I headed over to CITY-TV, this time without Doug Ford. In one hit, we talked about the wonderful, brilliant, perfect Ninth Circuit decision, which – as I put it – helped to hoist Trump and his G.O.P. supplicants on their own petard(s).

Trump thought he could attack judges, and get away with it. Wrong.

Trump thought he could just sign President Bannon’s Muslim Ban executive order, and no court could question him. Wrong.

Trump thought he could say all manner of hateful, bigoted things about Muslims, and get away with it.  Wrong.

And the lickspittles in the G.O.P. thought they could stop President Obama from appointing someone to the U.S. Supreme Court, and there’d be no blowback on them. Wrong.

If the USSC splits along ideological lines, the Ninth Circuit’s decision holds. Trump, and the G.O.P. loses.

The third CITY-TV hit, however, was the most fun. It was about how Trump’s fart-catcher, Sean Spicer, is even worse that the fabled Baghdad Bob. The clip is here. (I’ve tried to embed it, but the weird coding sends the video off to the side, or makes it full screen. Sorry. If you know how to fix it, Team Propellerhead, let me know.)

What a glorious, glorious day dawned today. As such, I am wearing this.

  1. cynical says:

And in other news, Jason Chaffetz gets schooled by his own constituents on his responsibilities as chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

  2. daveconstable says:

Beware the yo yo effect – up,down, up, down,…soon the ‘ups’ are ecstatic, the ‘downs’ are unbearable. – it’ll drain a person pretty quick.

  3. Richard says:

You have me in stitches about “walk softly and carry a bigly stick.” That’s gold, Jerry, GOLD!

  4. Ron Kelly says:

    Hi Warren
You can’t be hoisted! Trump may have been “hoist on his own petard” but he can’t be hoisted! That would require the successful efforts of a second party.

  5. Dan Calda says:

It appears that the Don will not go to Scotus…probably for exactly the reasons you cite.

  6. Ronald O'Dowd says:

When Trump deliberately chose to publicly attack two sitting federal judges, he LOST Roberts and Kennedy. That means 6-2 in favour of upholding the Ninth Circuit’s decision.

    • bluegreenblogger says:

really? You are saying that the supreme court is a popularity contest, and magically adopted ‘Nigerian rules’?

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

I’m saying two things: firstly, that it is simply unprecedented for the executive’s head to attack the judiciary, a co-equal branch of government. Secondly, that Trump’s incapacity to understand the rule of law and the role that is assigned to courts in the constitution would get the back up of even the most lowly placed judge in the judicial hierarchy. What Trump did should never have been done by any sitting or former president, and that’s why I’m sticking with my prediction, if the Trump Administration appeals to the Supreme Court.

        • Ronald O'Dowd says:

And before anyone brings up Obama, remember that he attacked the decision in Citizens United and not individual judges.
