Vic? Seriously?

I don’t know. I’m a constituent who has never voted for Fedeli either provincially or municipally but I’ve spoken with him a few times and I don’t think he’s as out of touch as a number of the alternatives are. He’s no long term solution for that party but they could do much worse in the short term I’d wager

Interim leader as picked by the PCPO caucus.

I guess we’ll know shortly whether there will be a leadership race before the election.

Personally I think there should be.

New Forum poll out today (yes, yes I know) taken Thursday hours after Brown stepped down shows PC support unchanged and no clear choice as his replacement:

    PC – 42
    Libs – 27
    NDP – 23

Maybe people don’t care who’s leading the PCPO, they just want the Liberals gone. They never associated the PCPO with Brown. He was not the PCPO like Harper was the CPC or like Trudeau is the Liberals.

I agree choosing someone like Lisa Raitt, Lisa Macleod, or Caroline Mulroney would be better, but unless more allegations come up that the caucus knew and covered up or the party breaks into civil war, I don’t think the average person cares a lot about the gender of the leader, they care about more what they have to offer. Off course if the male is seen as a creep or sexist that is a different story. Fideli strikes me as a safe but boring and dull candidate, sort of like John Tory or Bill Davis. Yes he is probably not the one to help them improve in the polls, but if they have a solid lead like Forum suggests (I am a bit skeptical of this poll) they only need to make sure whomever they choose is a safe choice.

The fact Wynne is strongly disliked and people want to dump the Liberals has not changed so I doubt unless there is some bombshell on him the Liberals will gain much. Perhaps maybe this will be an opening for the NDP, but it seems too many see them as a perennial third party and just ignore them. We shall see, but I don’t think choosing him is a guaranteed loss not is there any candidate out there who is a guaranteed win either.

Your points towards the end of your comment, about the NDP, are highly relevant I think. Or rather, are highly relevant, to the question of the Ont. NDP’s relevance.

Like many Ontarians, I have been following the developments of this story as it has unfolded, in multiple news outlets (TVO, TorStar, etc.) ― and I have found the near-total absence of the NDP & Ms. Horwath from all this media coverage and opining, to be rather noteworthy.

Either the Ontario NDP Caucus are being systematically ignored by all the political journalists at Queen’s Park (unlikely), or else the NDP Caucus have had nothing “newsworthy” to say.

If the latter is the case, then — given that all of Ontario is blathering away in a giant conversation, trying to make sense of what just happened and what comes next, and so will listen to anyone political at all about it — … then, if the latter is the case, the Ont. NDP Caucus must be asleep at the switch. Not a very effective strategy to garner pre-election attention.

Horwath went on a wide ranging rant on Thursday condemning the legal system because women can’t get a fair trial regarding sexual misconduct/harassment/assault. She has a point. We see slaps on the wrist all the time. But then she went “full retard” to quote Tropic Thunder. Her quote was “Two words: Gian Ghomeshi”

Problem is, it wasn’t the legal system that failed the women in that case. Quite frankly it was the women themselves. They were TERRIBLE witness and his lawyer shredded them on the stand. She showed among other things they had withheld information from the police.

So maybe the NDP executive have decided to keep her away from the press fo a couple days fearing she may say something that may lead to a libel suit.

      Miles,

Come on. CML. Just not happening. That template went out the window with Belinda.

  4. Matt says:

An edit to the other comment. It seems caucus is unanimously suggesting Fedeli lead the party into the election.

If I’m not mistaken that decision is up to the party executive.

Anyway, Toronto Mayor John Tory seems very happy with the choice.

  5. Matt says:

CP24 News in Toronto is reporting PCPO has made the final decision.

There will be a leadership race before the election. By the way the reporter presented the story, it sounds like Fedeli will be allowed to seek the permanent leadership.

In other news, CTV Toronto’s Queens Park reporter Paul Bliss has been suspended by the network for inappropriate behavior pending an investigation into the allegations.

    Warren,

Allow me to be more presumptuous than usual: WHO?

  7. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Warren,

Isn’t a party in crisis supposed to play its ace in reserve, for an election?

I must be missing something the size of Jupiter.

  8. Charlie says:

The funniest thing today was that when Vic was selected as leader, he truly and actually believed he’d be the guy to take them into the election.

    Lol. C’mon guy.

    1) In what world do you really see yourself as leadership material for 2018, when you’re not even on anyone’s top 50 list of contenders for the job following Patrick Brown.

    2) A backroom selection within caucus was never going to go well with the PC base. The idea that the party wouldn’t go through a leadership rase and try for a better leader is laughable. Too many better and determined leadership contenders to just let you waddle in Vic.

    Nevertheless, I’ll make a prediction:

The PC party has about 4 – 5 candidates throw their names in, 3 of them maybe serious potentials. Bozo eruptions from people who have been popping their heads up for the last little bit will become a lot more frequent and you’ll see the ideological seems exposed for Wynne Liberals to pick at. All said, Caroline Mulroney becomes the leader and takes the PCs into the election.

The rest is beyond bandwidth of my crystal ball.
