Teenagers, the destroyer of worlds

And this is why I’m in the middle of writing a trilogy about teenagers: they’re more interesting, and intelligent, and fearless, than any adult.

“Facebook announced a decline in daily users in America and Canada for the first time…globally, users were spending around 50m fewer hours per day on Facebook. [This] translates into users worldwide spending 15% less time on Facebook year over year.”

Reasons why here.

    Hmm.

Youngsters are spending more time on other apps such as Snapchat, and Facebook-owned photo-sharing app Instagram, where their parents and grandparents are less likely to lurk.

And this is evidence that young people are more interesting, intelligent and fearless?

  2. Pedant says:

The kids all fled Facebook when their parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents started joining in droves and, even worse, attempted to “friend” them.

Exactly. For young people, the ideal social media platform or app is one their parents and other oldsters don’t understand, haven’t heard of and/or can’t use.

  3. Sean says:

Snapchat and Instagram “Stories” disappear after 24 hours, and they notify you if someone’s taken a screenshot or saved a picture, so there’s much less concern that something you post is “forever” – something we’ve constantly been warning them.

As noted, they aren’t spending less time overall on social media, just on Facebook. If Snapchat and Instagram make someone more interesting, then I’ve got some magic beans to sell you…

*nb Facebook does need to get it’s shit together re manipulation from troll farms…

The cheesy ads and “suggested” this and that in my facebook feed are really irritating. And personally, I find targeted ads creepy. It’s like you’re getting stalked by a bot. Furthermore, it’s obvious that FB and others are on a constant campaign to collect as much personal info about me as possible. Again, it’s creepy and I personally stopped providing stuff like that long ago.
