One big happy CPC family

Once again proving my theory that Justin Trudeau is the luckiest politician on Earth.

Globe story:

Conservative MP Maxime Bernier says in a new book that party Leader Andrew Scheer won support from “fake Conservatives” set up by the powerful dairy lobby during last year’s federal Tory leadership race – a claim that could threaten party unity 18 months before the next general election.

Mr. Bernier, the four-term Quebec MP who currently serves as the Conservatives’ innovation critic, lost by a razor-thin margin to Mr. Scheer in last May’s leadership contest. A key plank in Mr. Bernier’s leadership bid was to scrap Canada’s supply-management system, which Mr. Scheer supports…

“Andrew, along with several other candidates, was then busy touring Quebec’s agricultural belt, including my own riding of Beauce, to pick up support from these fake Conservatives, only interested in blocking my candidacy and protecting their privileges,” Mr. Bernier writes.

“Interestingly, one year later, most of them have not renewed their memberships and are not members of the party anymore.”

Surely the luckiest was Mr. Chretien, leading the Liberals during the only 3 elections in Canada’s history in which the right-of-centre was bitterly disunited nationally.

There were previous regional splits though, such as with the Créditistes in Québec in the 1970s.

I don’t think most voters concern themselves much with internal party shenanigans.

But wasn’t Bernier in bed with the Patrick Brown gang in Ontario and all their “fake” conservatives.

Many people join political parties only for leadership races. It doesn’t mean they are fake. It just means that they don’t want to be bombarded and spammed incessantly by the endless fundraising pitches.

    Cry me a river. Boo-hoo-hoo.

At least the bus didn’t stop at the Mission is this race.

  4. Charlie says:

Bernier has had a chip on his shoulder ever since losing that race to Scheer in the 400th round.

  5. Terence Quinn says:

It once again proves the cons chose poorly in the leadership race. Scheer nonsense was the favourite of Harper and he made sure the vote went his way

As I said at the time, Bernier would have been my choice just for his opposition to the innocuously named “supply management”. I’ve always been disgusted by the practice, which really should be called “price fixing”.

Read something in a newspaper last week about ‘experts’ claiming that the current system doesn’t make our retail dairy products any more expensive than the US. Came perilously close to spewing coffee.

I was in favour of Maxime until I saw that he was against “supply management”. I’m old enough to remember farmers pouring milk down drains because they couldn’t even meet their production costs. If you wan’t cheaper milk filled with bovine growth hormone and excess antibiotics, enjoy your three hour car ride to and from the States. I’d rather pay a little more, have better quality milk, and have the hardest working farmers in Canada earn a decent living for their efforts. You want to see them put out of business by cheaper American imports?….I’d rather have them thrive and put money back into the local economy, as they do here in my little town.

“I’m old enough to remember farmers pouring milk down drains because they couldn’t even meet their production costs. ”

They still pour it down the drain, only now they do it to keep the price higher and their profits secure

“If you wan’t cheaper milk filled with bovine growth hormone and excess antibiotics, enjoy your three hour car ride to and from the States”

I’m 20 minutes from the States, and the quality of their milk meets or exceeds ours.

“I’d rather pay a little more, have better quality milk, and have the hardest working farmers in Canada earn a decent living for their efforts”

I’d rather pay half the price, have the same quality milk and support the efforts of small “mom and pop” farmers in the US rather than huge agro-corporations in Quebec.

This is not about providing good quality products and value for Canadian consumers…this is about PROFITS.

        • Ned Ludd says:

You may be twenty minutes from the states….so am I, but I’ve also had to wait three hours to get there and back….not worth the time, effort and “cost savings”.

Do some research on Bovine Growth Hormone. It’s permitted in the States, but not Canada, by the Canadian gov’t. There must be a reason for that.http://www.consumerhealth.org/articles/display.cfm?ID=19991128221446

Last time I checked, the milk that went to the local dairy(which is now owned by agri-corp Saputo) was still produced by local mom and pop dairy farmers here in the Fraser Valley.
The health issue is my main opposition to buying milk products produced in the states, if you are comfortable consuming them, have at it.

            There is. From the CBC:
            ——————
Oct 23, 2015 – Health Canada banned bovine growth hormone because of animal welfare concerns. It found no evidence of adverse health effects in humans who consumed dairy products originating with rBST-receiving cows.
            ——————

The Cancer Society also has no concerns over the safety of BHG.

“The health issue is my main opposition to buying milk products produced in the states, if you are comfortable consuming them, have at it.”

I haven’t had a glass of milk since I was a teenager. My point was (and still is) that it is wrong to artificially inflate prices to benefit business at the expense of consumers. Why do we arrest and criminally charge business owners who attempt this, but allow our government to do it in selective cases? Pure politics…

.. pardon our ignorance if you can
But what is an ‘innovation critic’ ?

    What criteria applies here ?
Is it to ensure he gets a front bench
    somewhere near Van Loan
but not too close to Andrew Scheer?

I did not realize we have
    a Mistress of Innovation
    or minister of such
    Is there spanking involved ?
    Porn stars ?

Do they examine creative sex positions?
What parameters exist, pray tell ?

This seems a vast field with no fences
A lot of room to graze or gaze upon
